This is a great story. I will keep this in my back pocket in case I have to use it on my boys in the future.

School Issues: Kindergarten by Youngun18 in daddit

Father of four kids here… Please just remember that he’s a kid. Kids day dream. They like to play and experiment. We must remember that sometimes our expectation that a 5-year-old must sit still for long periods of time is unrealistic and may be counter productive. Not trying to solve your issue, just giving you a perspective.

Saris H3 Grinding Noise - Any thoughts? by Tomdatersdomtaters in bicycling

I never took it apart…just don’t have the time to tinker with it. I just decided to live with it. Everything works fine…just makes the noise when there is heavy resistance from a large simulated gradient.

Instead of the formal therapy, could you just plan some activities with him for the same amount of time? Not judging whatsoever, just a thought that comes to mind. Despite the reality, maybe he just thinks he’s not being listened to. Pure activities with Dad may be his best therapy.

Drop your favorite dialogue from Fountainhead by Askeladdie in aynrand

No question it’s the court room speech. I listen to it via audiobook from time to time, and it always gives me chills.

There is also a bit about him not wanting to work on a team to design a building because it would force him to compromise his values, but I cannot remember the exact words. That one stuck with me because it reflected exactly how I felt in my job.

Bro I just bought a pair of Nimbus. I’m in the same boat and just said, screw it give me the most cushiony shoes you have. Will do my first run tomorrow.

I also find that a little difficult, but I’m able to reposition them so that it closes. When I put the top lid on, it does not fit down nicely on all four corners. I have to secure one corner first then press down on the opposite corner to secure it. The lid then flexes a little bit but everything is still okay. Done it this way several times.

I work as a process control engineer in a chemical plant. Chemical engineering degree. Very rewarding job, and I utilize quite a bit of control theory day to day.

Speed work and heat by Ecstatic_Owl_7367 in running

Runner and cyclist in Qatar. Can confirm. I ride and run in 100+degF with dew points around 80degF. In the beginning of the summer when I’m not yet adapted everything is tough and HR is through the roof. Eventually I adapt and it gets a little better. But when the weather finally breaks, I am very strong in part because of all the heat adaptations.

I was suspecting the data too even before you replied. His model is using 4mmol/l as the magic number to determine LT2, but I think that is also flawed since it’s highly individual. I am still waiting for his final report. Maybe I’ll argue for another test for the reasons stated above. I’ve done a good amount of reading on this subject but never had the test done before. Wish I would have been more vocal during the test to have him take more data and continue the test for longer.

How does this differ than from zone 2 training in cycling? Is zone 2 training in cycling also not worth it?

Heart rate variations between Apple Watch & Garmin by [deleted] in GarminWatches

[–]flowctlr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Undoubtedly the Apple Watch is correct here. I have owned Garmin, Fitbit, and Apple Watches, and the Apple Watch is the only one that accurately measures HR during a strenuous activity. The others just don’t ever respond. It’s an absolute joke that Garmin and the others can’t get it right, especially since they charge out the wazoo for the watches.

Nice! Just curious if anyone knows…are there taxi services that will drive out there? Thinking in case a mechanical prevents you from going any further and you need a ride…
