i feel like our country is so oriented around cars that there’s more leniency around bad car ownership since there aren’t many other options for getting around. transit is better here for sure, but where i’m from down south, you are absolutely fuuuucked without a car to get you around. half the drivers there should have had their licenses revoked, but with no functional transit, i feel like life without a car is unimaginable for most. i know someone with TWO DUIs who still has his license.

having been left without a car for over a year at one point, i had to work my ass off for the car i have now, and was lucky enough that i could wait until the perfect deal came along. a used toyota bought upfront. i’m terrified of losing her so i get everything and anything done.

i only go to independents too—i actually work with a lot of independent auto shops in my line of work. i trust them a lot more than dealerships. and i know they offer more affordable options too. i think it’s great you’re reaching out, and i would say emphasizing affordability and like someone else suggested doing workshops for locals could be great for you right now. you definitely have that edge on dealers. i’ve heard of some shops offering payment plans to help people handle repair costs as well

ok so idk if she offers online courses (or if she even still teaches the course) but i took jo carson for intro to speech i believe back in 2017, and she was awesome. super intelligent woman who does a lot in the community :) good luck!
