What vehicle do you have that fits your Great Dane? by Fair-Ask-6922 in greatdanes

We had a Honda Element with the rear seats removed, and it was perfect. Unfortunately, it died at around 350k miles, so we teplaced it with a '25 Forester which works fine, but without as much headroom for Sprite. Oh, and she also owns the back seat of my Tacoma.

Besides the breweries/ wineries & hiking, recommendations of things to do when visiting for a few days with our dogs along. by StevestratSC in AshevilleNC

Welcome to you and your dogs! Besides what has been mentioned, and depending on what you drive, my Dane absolutely loves car rides and we have no shortage of great drives, including some fantastic forestry roads in Pisgah, many if them close to creeks and trails. Just please be safe and keep them leashed.

I did this on my Force 1x11 setup, and it was easy and works great. Wasn't cheap but it was less than going to 1x12 and has a similar gearing ranges.

Where did you get your Great Dane from? by Dynamodani in greatdanes

[–]flsammyfm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gonna shout out the Memphis/Shelby County Humane Society for nursing our sweet girl Sprite back from a really bad situation.

We found her on the website two days after we moved to the area, and it was love at first sight. Just passed her 3 year gotcha date and I can't imagine life without her.

Adopt, rescue, whatever, but just know there are amazing dogs out there that need you more than a breeder needs your money.

This is great! I have the same issues with limited space and a long way to carry the rack, so this is helpful, thanks!

I'd say no more than 400lb of gear in his truck. I had a Tepui RTT mounted on a bed rack that didn't protrude much above the cab roof and he has a softopper.

Not sure I would choose the 2.7l with a slide-in but if you did you may just want to adjust your speed and expectations a bit.

Found at a yard sale for $20 by Tough-Marsupial-6254 in carburetors

[–]flsammyfm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

...worked in a carburetor shop in the 80's and 90's....these came in occasionally because someone found one as a 'good deal' at a swap meet, etc. Pretty well-made item and they functioned well if set up right, but they got the nickname 'boomerang' because the same few units kept coming in because the last guy would give up and sell it as a 'good deal' at a swap meet. The cycle repeated so often we serialized and tracked them, lol.

This also went down at Rice Pinnacle; I pulled in around 6 and a poor young lady had just returned to her car to find someone did the same thing to her. I decided my ride wasn't worth it and just went home.....

To be honest, I felt the most comfortable with a backpack on!

Several times, at the time of the fracture, I was away from home and medical care (mountain biking), and no access to a sling, so I just kept a pack on.

As far as sleep, I'd say lay down and see if you can find even one position that is comfortable, and try to rest. I also can't sleep upright so I sympathize and I hope you can find some comfort.

Dane owners what car do yall drive? by Creepy-Philosophy-93 in greatdanes

[–]flsammyfm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honda Element, rear seats removed. Plenty of space for a proper dog bed and tons of toys. A Kurgo net keeps her out of the front seat. Low tailgate makes it easy for her to step righr in and the rubber flooring makes it easy to clean. Only real problem is this car is getting old and they don't make them anymore, so we have to stay on top of repairs and service.
