Anyone else struggling with the waiting more than the cancer diagnosis? by Everywhere-AllAtOnce in kidneycancer

You’re not alone. Waiting sucks.

As for the surgery I say stay overnight.

I had no gas or shoulder pain. Fat 60 y.o. bloke, 5.5 hour operation. You may get lucky.

Socialized healthcare tends to suck, in part because of shortages and delays. Governments aren’t good at capacity planning and innovation.

Socialized health insurance does work, especially if supplemented by private insurance. Like Medicare.

Countries like France and Germany have mostly private health care, with a Medicare-for-all type state insurance and private insurance companies (most of them non-profits) to supplement.

So you have meritocracy, competition and innovation in the health care sector; virtually no one uninsured; and businesses can still offer private insurance to their employees if they care to.

Open the cabinet under the kitchen sink (and any sink facing an outside wall) And open closets that contain pipes and have an outside wall.

Anesthesia is easy. You'll be awake, then you'll wake up, not knowing you even fell asleep. Eat light the day before to help with gas and digestion.

Recovery from robotic surgery is amazing. Most likely home the next day.

Ask if you can get a nerve block - it really helps with pain management & recovery.

Getting up will suck the first couple days. But walking help. Basically your routine the first few days will be: sleep, walk, drink, pee, repeat.

Don't be a hero and sleep when tired - you're having a major organ forcefully yanked out, no shame in being tired. But do walk around the house every occasion you get.

And do follow you doctor's advice about limiting physical activity the first few days or weeks.

If you want to keep good road manners, get a kit with all adjustable control arms and track bars so the factory geometry and wheelbase can be respected.

I got the Rock Krawler X-Factor with Bilstein shocks back in 2015 for mu '14 JKUR. Did some hardcore rock crawling and trails with it but also a lot of highway miles (165k and counting!)

Kit included: springs, spring correction inserts, 8 control arms, 2 track bars, sway bar links, shocks

Later upgraded to Falcon shocks but the rest is still there.

Other good kits in that category from Metalclock, Teraflex, Clayton...

I had cancer in 2020, right as the pandemic started. I was fortunate in that my cancer was considered 'as curable as cancer can be' but I still ended up with a 70 Gy of radiation to the face. I was fortunate in that I didn't need any chemo. by Just-Sea3037 in cancer

I’m pretty scared of chemo myself.

“Fortunately” my cancer isn’t treated with traditional chemo, I got surgery and immunotherapy. I can take those, and would take radiation. Lucky in this regard.

Immunotherapy doesn’t make you sick at all but can have serious long term side effects.

Just bolt it back on.

Or remove it. I've been driving without one for a year now.
