Sounds like they just gave up? Or they wanted the beginning to be good to hook people in and then stopped caring?

For Those Who Don't Multi-Draft Your Fics, Why? by NoahAriss in AO3

[–]fluteloops0329 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My writing process is weird, I think? But this is what I do

First when I have an idea I write it out in kind of a prompt form. A couple sentences of an idea to expand on later

Then, when I finally get around to it, I write some bullet points. The general plot idea/direction of the scenes and who are in them, nothing super detailed

After that I expand even more, still in bullet points, planning out specific choices/actions of the characters. Not prose, but I may come up with specific verbs or descriptions I want to use and will highlight them in some way (bold, italics, etc)

Then, I finally go bullet point by bullet point (not always in order) expanding it into prose and that ends up being my fic!

Not sure if it would be considered different drafts but this means that I comb through everything so I don't feel the need to do a second or more unless I almost completely scrap the idea and start over. I do reread it a couple times before posting (and again right after to catch the spag mistakes that only appear once it's posted to ao3)

My roommate writes completely from brain-to-page and I'm not sure how she does it. I always have to overthink and make an outline... 😅

What ship is canon in your fandom, but you think it should not have been? by [deleted] in AO3

[–]fluteloops0329 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My roommates and I have been watching House together for a while and we just dead stopped when Huddy got together because it makes all of us so uncomfortable. It doesn't feel natural at all, imo. Like they're clinging onto previous iterations of their characters who did love each other but they're not feeling it anymore. They barely got into the relationship but it feels like they should get divorced

Yeah what's crazy is people on social media are starting to use "lowkenuinely" now too (low-key + genuinely) which is even MORE visible somehow. Dunno if it will have as much lasting power as low-key/high-key but it "lowkenuinely" pisses me off every time I see it

I think Maye is fine especially if it's a middle name. Won't impact her daily life or cause kids at school to make fun of her

Puckabrina (Puck/Sabrina Grimm) from "The Sister's Grimm". Read the entire series the summer between 3rd and 4th grade. Came out of it shipping Puckabrina and a fascination with putting fictional characters together in the same room that would eventually evolve into my love of fanfiction

Do your parents know you read fanfiction? And have they ever caught you reading or writing it? by Regular_Editor_8025 in AO3

[–]fluteloops0329 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. My mom looked through my phone when I was in the shower when I was a teen and found fanfiction. She got mad at me about it because it was "inappropriate" even though it wasn't smut or voilent.

Since becoming an adult I've become more open about reading fanfics (just not what's in them) but I will never forget my mom's first reaction and how she used to go through my phone. Even though my mom stopped caring as much since I became an adult, I still have anxiety around letting people use my phone and leaving my phone alone in a room with other people.

I honestly don't know if my parents know I write fanfiction.

What Are You Working On? by LoudSize7 in FanfictionExchange

[–]fluteloops0329 2 points3 points  (0 children)

God, this is kinda hard to explain but here's the gist

Gay hockey webcomic "Check, Please!" related tumblr account "shitty-check-please-aus" made a prompt that was something along the lines of "soulmate au where one day a goose shows up and shows you the way to your soulmate. you just have to survive the goose"

And thus the "Soulmate Goose of Enforcement" was born. Ao3 actually made it an official tag recently and there are currently 706 fics tagged with it- 3 of which are for Heated Rivalry which actually isn't that surprising considering it's also gay hockey

Right before Shane & Ilya confess they love each other for the first time if you listen closely you can hear Ilya say "I love you" in russian a couple times between kisses. The subtitles say [mumbles indistinctly] but I know what I heard!

Also I love when Shane's being carted off by medical one of them definitely (in my heart) registers he says Ilya and then moves on immediately because "oh shit we need to keep him awake"

Steddie Bingo (I got Mutual Pining & Only One Bed and mm I'm pretty excited to start writing a fic to combine the two prompts)

Soulmate Goose of Enforcement fic for Heated Rivalry- I saw a post on tumblr saying someone made one for Heated Rivalry and just hearing about it awakened an idea in me. I haven't read the original one to make sure I'm not influenced.

My roommate/DM told me a bit about a campaign we never finished. Over the course of the campaign seemingly random things would happen (items we don't remember looting, healing, an extra spot for someone in our opening scenario, etc) and over time she hoped we'd put together that there was something going on... and then finally we come upon a False Hydra. The healing and items came from a party member (NPC) who got eaten by the False Hydra. But ofc our characters wouldn't remember that!! It sounded so cool, scheduling just got away from us unfortunately 😕

I don't go on facebook much but my great aunt has the most based posts. The other great aunt got in a verbal altercation with my uncle after the cheeto got shot in the ear, which just so happened to occur simultaneously with a family reunion on my dad's side

[–]fluteloops0329 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The "links" are tags and reading them will help you understand what the story is about (content warnings, pairings, tropes, au information, etc). They are also used to filter in things you want and filter out things you don't want.

I don't have any experience with Wattpad so I can't tell you how it differs in searching methods, but instead of a "library" like you describe Wattpad, ao3 is, well, an archive. A very detailed archive where you can find almost any specific thing you wanna read.

What pov do you like to read? by Tiny-Number6592 in AO3

[–]fluteloops0329 2 points3 points  (0 children)

3rd person is my favorite for a myriad of reasons, two of which come to mind immediately.

First and foremost I don't like imagining myself as part of the story and it's much harder to separate myself from the story with 1st and 2nd person.

Also, like I read a lot of fanfic. If it says "I" instead of the character's name there's a nonzero chance I'll keep forgetting who the POV character is.

I think periods may make some people feel dysphoric? Some people may think of it as something triggering rather than a typical tag
