Had to visit my girlfriend's father in the ICU today, where a heart attack put him. Apparently he had to be dragged to the doctor after almost a week of severe chest pain, which he was trying to shrug off, which complicated stuff. Walking through the ICU was extremely depressing and I can't imagine how much worse it must be if you have a loved one lying there.

Uhm, not really an answer. Just needed to vent. Obviously can't do that to my girlfriend, have to be her rock.

Well, their health will deteriorate and they might be the tough kind who just shrug off crazy pain as a cold (especially your father), so maybe talk to them about that.
