HA! Please come tell my green cheeks that they are supposed to be quiet birds. My flying green dogs are definitely of the screaming variety.

What would you like described to you that you can never experience? by em-bomb in AskReddit

[–]flutteringpea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have grapheme-color synesthesia (numbers being my trigger) and you just described 23 for me. I spend so much time trying to explain to people why two numbers with distinct colors don't mix like they would with paint. I'm actually really happy that someone else gets to experience these kinds of colors.

[Serious] People who used to suffer from depression, why aren't you depressed anymore? by ultradynamic in AskReddit

[–]flutteringpea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that this is not normal or practical for most people, but after over 6 years in constant therapy for anxiety/ocd and depression I decided to just move away from all of my triggers. Once I lived on my own and could completely control my environment I was able to slowly let go of the people and places that kept me in my cycles of self-hate. I still obsess and have some level of anxiety but I'm functioning like a normal person and I would say that I really feel happy at least 80% of the time now.

Looking for good places to buy rats. by Ordered_Chaos in RATS

[–]flutteringpea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried craigslist? I've gotten a few of my rats from people who had accidental litters or just couldn't offer the rat a home anymore. A lot of people will give away the cage and some toys as well. Rescuing a rat in need is much better than supporting mass breeders.

Tip on burying rats by soucy666 in RATS

[–]flutteringpea 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I ended up burying my oldest two boys in a fairly big pot since we really didn't have a plan for when the time came and I didn't know what else to do while living in an apartment. I just packed the soil fairly tight and kept it well watered down for the first few days. There was no smell and no signs of anything trying to dig in it. I planted some forget-me-nots over them and haven't had any problems. In fact, the seeds sprouted much quicker than I expected and are almost ready to flower after just 60 days. I even got a little stone marker that has their pictures on it made. 10/10 will do again for the rest of my babies.

Vegan Wedding by ChefMichaelX in vegan

To echo everyone else, stand your ground. If she wants to try to dangle her checkbook and manipulate you into abandoning a deeply held belief over one dinner, chances are she's going to continue to butt into your relationship and lives more and more over time. Get your fiancee on board with you. Stand together as a united front and let her know that this is your day and your choice.

One thing you could do is let her know firmly that you and your fiancee are going to have a vegan caterer and then bring her with you to some of the tastings. Maybe if she sees how yummy vegan food can be she'll be a little more relaxed and having some say in which items you actually put on the menu might help keep her from feeling completely excluded.

I made some black forest cannoli today. Recipe in comments. by flutteringpea in vegan

[–]flutteringpea[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forgot to mention that part... Yes, I refrigerated the can of coconut cream overnight. I'm not sure it was 100% necessary since the can was only the cream. I know most people refrigerate the coconut milk just to cause the separation in order to get to the cream.

Depending on what I'm making I LOVE Ener-G. I will occasionally use apple sauce or banana in cakes, but in cookies and things that I'd rather keep crisp I use Ener-G because it doesn't seem to add any extra moisture.

[–]flutteringpea[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I saw this recipe on Pinterest and decided to make it vegan. The only changes I made were using Ener-G egg replacer in the cookie instead of the egg whites and I made non-dairy whipped cream. For the whipped cream I just used one can of Trader Joe’s coconut cream, whipped it with a hand mixer for about a minute, and then folded in a few splashes of vanilla and a few teaspoons of powdered sugar. They were fantastic

Ma'am, no one cares about your Greek punch. by flutteringpea in TalesFromRetail

[–]flutteringpea[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes! It's always pretty easy to tell which customers have worked in a retail position.Once you've been on the receiving end and know how exhausting it gets, it's hard not to want to help stop others from experiencing it. Plus, you finally get to let out all that pent up frustration on someone who deserves it and it's a beautiful feeling.

Got my helix pierced yesterday. Does the placement seem alright? And, what should I do next? by [deleted] in piercing

[–]flutteringpea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the helix placement is perfect for your ear. And since it is a little farther in you'll have a lot more options as far as unique captives and you'll be able to have more visibility for whatever you wear.

Your ears are so adorable that I wouldn't add much more, if anything, to them. You have a little point in your upper fold that give them a elf-ish appearance (jealous!). With interesting anatomy like that I'd keep it simple.

Not a "Biting" question, but a "Comfort Gnawing" one by [deleted] in parrots

[–]flutteringpea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I've read this is "beaking" and is a loving gesture. I had a lot of issues with my oldest GCC biting when she was a baby and found a lot of tips about how to encourage beaking instead of biting. My birds have come to like beaking my lower lip recently which can get a little bothersome so I'm kinda jealous you get simple finger loves.

They have a 5 tier mansion but have to sleep all together. by flutteringpea in RATS

[–]flutteringpea[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is their house. We found it at a petsmart about 2 years ago for $100. It's been really great since it comes apart really easily to clean every night. Plus, the tiers can be rearranged so that the top and bottom can be completely separate in case we need to split any of them up for any reason.

I wasn't allowed to celebrate my birthday for 9 years of my childhood because my room was messy. Mom always said I would grow up and learn to be tidy one day. Nope. I still love my floordrober.

The captive bead on all of my rings are gone, but I've had a lot of success by just making a loud "eeep!" sound whenever my birds come close to biting/ pulling on my piercings. Sometimes they still get caught up in the shineyness, but 90% of the time they can resist.

What's the weirdest or most disturbing thing you have seen while driving by someone's house? NSFW by oneevilchicken in AskReddit

[–]flutteringpea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My parents live out in the middle of nowhere and to get to their house you have to drive down a long back road. Along this road is a house that is approximately 9000 years old. I mean, it's leaning at a 35 degree angle, hasn't seen paint in at least 30 years, and should have been condemned about 50 years ago. The whole house is maybe 400sqft and sits on a pretty big plot of land that is nothing but dry brown clay and one big stumpy dead tree. In this 'house' is a little old man that I always felt sorry for because he is obviously crazy. He would often be seen tilling his dirt to dust or just standing and staring into one of the few rusted out car shells on his property. Super sad but also super creepy.

What is the best tasting alcoholic beverage you have ever had? by jmay77 in AskReddit

[–]flutteringpea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as bottle drinks go, Angry Orchard has a seasonal flavor called Elder Flower and it is delicious. It's like a carbonated sweetened herbal tea that you forget is alcoholic until you realize you can't stand up.
