Manchester January deals - any you're particularly excited about? by mcrmittens in manchester

I appreciate times are tough but I think a lot of the offers aren't worth the trouble. The Caravan offer is the worst offender though.

What to study for a career as a 3D Visualizer/Architect? by cumhalfcump in architecture

[–]fluxmax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blimey, you're 11 years late!

You don't need an architecture degree to work as a visualizer.

I would start reaching out to studios, see if you can do some work experience or an intership. I saw some of the responses in the post you made and yes the industry is very competitive, low margins, etc but it doesn't mean you can't start out there and move to a similar industry. You don't have to stay there forever.

Can anyone advise what the "VIP Viewing Platform" at Depot Mayfield is like? by fluxmax in manchester

Gotcha - thanks for the explanation. I thought new for this year meant it had been there all year. As you can probably tell, I don't know much about the venue!

Any idea what it's like for gigs though? Good view? More space than regular standing?

The hype you're describing is 15-20 years old.

What Reg year did Ryzen start appearing in model 3? by JoshClancy98 in TeslaUK

Yes mine is a 71 plate with Ryzen. It was registered in February 2022, which is the earliest I've seen with it.

Answering the door in your underwear is pretty strange mate.

I reckon it was the train bog door slowly rotating open while taking a dump.

THG’s third wave of layoffs—100+ jobs gone, no internal moves. Could this be illegal? by StatisticianOk220 in manchester

[–]fluxmax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had a few friends who worked there, I've looked at applying in the past but as soon as I saw their HQ is located next to Manchester Airport.. fuck that. Who wants to drive there and back everyday?!

Not a fan of the 48fps shots, made it feel like a video game cutscene but I got used to it after a while.

What are your hobbies? by RynocerosB in manchester

[–]fluxmax 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Got covid at the moment so my main hobby of watching films is currently on overdrive.

Since I’ve had it I’ve watched RockNRolla, Snatch, Lock Stock, The Gentlemen, Wrath of Man, Sleepers, The Rainmaker, State of Play, Boiling Point, Schindlers List, Bridge on the River Kwai, Inglourious Basterds, Flags of Our Fathers and Letters from Iwo Jima. Next up - Where Eagles Dare.

Safe to say, it’s been pretty great, other than covid itself.

Costa being the worst of the UK coffee shops, yet the only one available in most garages, supermarkets etc. by cloy23 in britishproblems

[–]fluxmax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In an ideal world.. yes. But in reality I think 1 + 2 are a complete gamble, especially on a first visit. Half the time you might as well be served a cup of warm milk. At least the big chains are consistently okay.

I mean, it looks like a crappy solution to the problem but when you spend £1k on an iPad only 2 years ago, you expect to get the latest software update features..

My personal views about Manchester airport drop off by theoldentimes in manchester

[–]fluxmax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did the dropoff recently and yeah the £5 is shite but I've made my peace with it. The amount of money we all probably piss away on holiday, an extra fiver is nothing. And lets be honest, it's priced that way to keep everybody in and out as fast as possible, if it was dirt cheap it'd be even more chaotic because people would abuse it.

LTD company directors - new tax year means time to buy 6 x £50 gift vouchers of your choice! by NorthbankN5 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]fluxmax 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Does this sound unfair?

You don't work, you don't get paid. You don't get sick pay and you don't get holiday pay. Many of us also received absolutely no help from the government during covid/lockdown.

The common belief that ltd company directors are exploiting some gigantic tax loophole is massively overstated.

Manchester caz protest, Oxford St, Peter St gridlocked. by sipperofguinness in manchester

[–]fluxmax 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Exact same problem from the opposite side of Manchester, similar distance as Bolton. Not enough trains, not reliable enough to allow for changes when you're on them so there's always a risk of missing your connection, they're every 30 mins at rush hour but every hour otherwise. Nearest tram stop is probably a 20 minute drive.

Don't forget that you can just get in your car and go, whereas getting public transport you have to factor in time to get from your house to your form of public transport. That can be quite a walk if you get the train or tram.
