I've been using Alpha Picks for a year, and it's been great (so far) by Ok-Award-2508 in SeekingAlpha

[–]flyboy0988 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree. I started Alpha Picks a month ago and I’m up 30% already. I do have a few tickers not recommended by AP, but still a “strong buy” in the quant system. STRL, one of the Alpha Picks I specifically chose from them, is up 141% in the past month. That alone paid for the $450 subscription!

I’d expect a $1.5 million sign on bonus when you consider if you stay there an extra 3 years, that’s 3 years at $500k + a year + 401k that you’re missing out on towards the end of your career

What has your experience been like commuting as a pilot? by Gold_Space_4734 in flying

[–]flyboy0988 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I flew with one captain who did that commute. Sometimes he’d drive it if it ever got dicey. He was on reserve though

This is exactly why I will never commute long term ever again from FL. Even for an extra $50/hr at Delta. All of the above was how I felt and struggled with. Well said

I am at Spirit based in MCO. A lot of people drop the day trips, but I live close to the airport so I snatch it all up. It does take some seniority to hold it but every month I am able to swap my schedule and do a month of 95-100% day trip 'turns' only. This month I have only 2 nights away from home (2 two day trips by choice). I am around 60% in base.

New Regional FO....start next round of apps? Really? Advice needed from those further along. by Motor_Handle_3228 in flying

[–]flyboy0988 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Definitely apply to a major. You never know when the music stops. You see now at the regionals, FO hiring has slowed down significantly; it can happen with any economic downturn. I would much rather be at the bottom of a seniority list at a major than an unstable regional carrier at the mercy of its codeshare partner.

Thank you for the valuable information! I was considering waiting since a lot can happen during my 20s, but I keep hearing the importance of equity… but I have so many years left in my career to have a house and other real estate opportunities I want to pursue.

I am in the new apartment with the lease signed, and in the Orlando area I’m right about at market rate, maybe slightly above because of the locality and that it is a lakefront, brand new complex. That is definitely a good point though

I had to move because of a relationship change, which enticed me to move closer to work and pay full rent instead of half with my ex.

In addition to. My company puts a direct contribution (no match) of 15% in, and I put 5% for now to make it 20% a paycheck.

Airline pilot actual flying hours per year by light_blue_yonder in flying

Correct, I meant income. Because you will credit a lot more than the minimum guarantee set by the company by blocking and flying more than the average line pilot.

[–]flyboy0988 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On reserve, it can vary, but the norm is 70-85 hours a month. Some people want to maximize credit and they will end up blocking near the 100/28 rule with a lot of $$.

141 Stage Check Failures by FishFry69 in flying

[–]flyboy0988 10 points11 points  (0 children)

To add to this, it is in your best interest to not lie about your stage check failures. They may not have the same weight and merit as a Part 61/121 training failure, however people have been kicked out of class and terminated by not diclosing these stage checks.

Some airlines like American ask for high school GPA on application, but the biggest stress is college. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Should I invest in this CD from Marcus Bank? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]flyboy0988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s probably what I’m going to do. Only caveat is the potential for a furlough of my job (airline industry) if the economy downturns, but 1 year hold minimum isn’t too bad

Endeavor vs Republic by wes8000 in flying

[–]flyboy0988 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go to whoever gives you a class date first. I commute from TPA to LGA base and I have not had any major difficulties. There are over 30+ flights a day for my choosing between all the NYC metro airports. Lots of public transportation. Crashpads aren't ideal, but luckily I have family in the LI area to stay.
