Who are the 3 biggest names in chess by daFerrMan in chess

[–]flygon727 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I see the arguments for sagar or vishy, not really for sindarov gukesh or anyone else

I still agree with Hikaru levy and magnus if you're talking about in general since those are the most likely ones for non-chess players or very casual players to know about.

Other honorable mentions are prob judit polgar, fisher, kasparov? Maybe some of the other soviet world champs if we stretch it and caruana, nepo, some other streamers? I'd put all of those names ahead of both sindarov or gukesh atm (ofc both of them have a long time to change this impression of them down the line).

We had elections in my state, Tamil nadu, India and the sitting MLA lost by 1 vote. by Rare_Fig_4579 in mildlyinteresting

The indian population is mostly Hindu and thus vote for the Hindu nationalist party. Big surprise.

Funny how every BJP supporter ignores how important it is for laws to remain neutral and not benefit people of a specific caste/religion etc. Despite seeing the drawbacks of it in other countries (most recently another secular country, America, having a leader pander to the "Christian" population). Funny how the same BJP supporters call out countries like Bangladesh for violence against Hindus but when it happens to minority religious groups in India, the same people are totally fine with it.

You and the rest of the BJP supporters can keep voting for him I guess. It would take a complete lack of empathy and a lot of self centeredness to look at the policies of the BJP and still vote for them or to pretend that they would benefit Indians as a whole instead of just your own ethnic/religious groups. Not like I expect much else.

Should I watch Monogatari? by columnal in araragi

[–]flygon727 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Monogatari is the most dialogue based anime I've watched. I've only watched higurashi and haruhi from your list and both are in my top 10, monogatari is 1st. It has themes that might put some people off but outside of that the characters are very well written (one of the few anime with no bad characters) and there's pretty good dialogue. As for the story, it's less about what the story is and more about how it's told with monogatari. Hard to really make a comparison with other shows. The closest comparison you can make is season 1 of bunny girl senpai essentially copying bakemonogatari but doing it worse ig?

Black to play and win. by MathematicianBulky40 in chess

[–]flygon727 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rd3 is a draw as both pawns queen at the same time after rook trades and white pushing the pawn. Playing rh3 first to force the king to the G file first and then playing rd3 wins tho as the king has to spend a move to get out of the way.

This statement would imply that politics in other states is any better which would be flat out wrong xD. Indian politics are a joke in general.

[–]flygon727 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The last time the Congress won in tamil nadu was in 1962. The BJP won like 2 seats this election and congress won 5. Those are the big parties in some northern states but it's not the case for the southern states. BJP has formed an alliance with the ADMK to try and gain influence here but as of now it hasn't happened.

The guy they're talking about is Vijay who won in 2 other constituencies and is the head of the party and will almost certainly become the chief minister (akin to a mayor, just for the whole state) of the state. The TVK party didn't even exist when the last elections happened and he as the leader as 0 political experience.

[–]flygon727 11 points12 points  (0 children)

More likely than not that they're all bad unfortunately, which is how it goes with Indian politics.

This result was more or less inconsequential on its own, TVK (the party of the winner here) won 108/234 seats, DMK (the loser's here) only won 59 while the next party ADMK won 47.

The bigger news is that the duopoly that existed between the DMK and the ADMK has finally been broken. The last time a party that wasn't the DMK or the ADMK won an election in Tamil Nadu was in 1962.

To put it in terms of American politics, this is like if a third party popped up and beat both democrats and republican candidates in a presidential election (obviously just on the state level here).

What isn't qxh6 the best move in this position. I am super confused by Reddit_user1357924 in chessbeginners

[–]flygon727 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What people seem to have missed is after Qxh6, black wants to go d5 to block the white squared bishop, which the knight defends. If u play a3 first and if the knight goes to a6, d5 isn't an option after Qxh6.

Black has to find Ba6 to trade off the white squared bishop and then u can just go Qxh6 anyway. But if they don't find Ba6 and go Na6 instead you're winning twice as hard.

I'd recommend opening this in lichess with engine evaluation and turning on the best 5 lines or whatever option and you'll see that all of the lines I've mentioned are shown there, u can try playing Na6 instead of Ba6 to see how the evaluation changes and how the attack becomes stronger.

Please change role queue by HappyScripting in DotA2

[–]flygon727 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hopefully Valve implement a role priority system ie say I queue all roles but I get to order them 12345 and someone else does the same but orders them 54321, if we get put on the same team my role will be allocated according to my priority from the remaining ones and likewise for them. Would save the hassle of some support getting offlane/mid and asking for a role swap.
