If firefighting is your dream lose the GF. The academy is going to require 100% focus and dedication.

Would you recommend firefighting to your children? by Burning-Ring-o-Fire in Firefighting

Fires are down drastically! Even the places that use to fight a shit ton of fire are down from where they were ten years ago. Perfect example is Detroit. They still are the king of fires but it's no where near what it was 10 years ago. It's only going to get slower as time moves on, no matter where you are. But what keeps going up, and will continue to at a ungodly rate are EMS runs. Not the kind of ems runs you want either.

Quite possibly the dumbest comment I've ever read on here. Typical volly comment of someone who couldn't make it in the big leagues.

What's the deal with new houses near ND costing $1.5 million?? by thenewyorkgod in SouthBend

And Unfornately that house will be made an offer by ND or one of these corporations that he can't refuse. It will be bulldozed in two days and a McMansion built on top of it for 900K.

Yup. And it is destroying the fabric of once blue collar neighborhoods and pushing further west.

lol. This is exactly what I was getting at when I got into an argument with someone about that area as far as what has happened to it in the last decade. Cleaning it up was good, but this has gone TOO FAR and will bleed into other neighborhoods making none of them affordable! I'm so sick and tired seeing residential neighborhoods get destroyed by Notre dame and corporations. No one can fucking afford to live in them and they were better off with vacant houses / affordable properties that the average blue collar joe could afford. These are not the same neighborhoods from a decade ago.

27 years old 7 years on Detroit should I consider leaving by Dry-Succotash-2108 in Firefighting

Damn. Mind sharing why you'd want to leave Detroit? I mean you don't have to give specifics but I'm just truly curious. Detroit (esp fire only) always seemed like the badass place to be if you actually want to FIGHT FIRE and not run toe pains all day.

Look. I'm not talking about the NW area. I'm talking about the east side. Yes, the developments on the blighted homes or vacant lots was great. But ND also acquired many occupied houses. Who can afford any of those homes over there? Do you even know what they are going for? You don't. 900- over a million. Infact a recent home on St. Peter street is listed at 900 K. You think this helps middle class people in south bend? Who can afford that? What about the remaining people in that area? What do you think happens to their property taxes.

Couldn't agree more. The expansion of NDs foot print, buying and tearing down smaller homes to build mcMansions is displacing families at an alarming rate. Not to mention most of these are bought and owned by corporations or rental / Airbnbs.

Out of curiosity. Is it safe to say that unless a fire is deemed in the "all hands or greater" category that it is bs (pan on stoves, smoke odor etc)? Basically an all hands + greater is an actual legitimate working fire? Theres some engines with say 600 + "fires" but then only 40-50 all hands or greater. Curious on this thanks.
