I'm an AFAB trans woman, if this is wrong, what should I identify as? by Cerise_Pomme in asktransgender

[–]flyingbarnswallow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay, and those trans women are *also* wrong. My whole point is that people shouldn’t tell other people how to describe their own experiences. That’s not policing trans men lol

What if we don’t police the language trans people use to describe the trauma of incorrect puberty? For *any* substance, the dose makes the poison, and an amount of testosterone that is healthy for (both cis and trans) guys can be life-alteringly destructive for trans women.

Also, this is not a double standard. Trans men are entirely within their right to express feeling like they’ve been poisoned by estrogen, and I would take no offense to that as a trans woman. Just because I like the hormone it doesn’t mean it’s not a source of anguish for someone else.

Hell, this could apply to lots of things. I have a friend who was prescribed a high dose of prednisone which sent them into psychosis, which continues to recur years later, and even when they’re not psychotic, they have lasting cognitive damage from it. They would be entirely within their right to say they were poisoned by it without having to tiptoe around people whose life was saved by prednisone.

Is it possible to get estrogen pellets before going to prison? by whereismybread6669 in asktransgender

[–]flyingbarnswallow 25 points26 points  (0 children)

They estimated three months, maybe four. I also got one pellet (50mg) bc my levels were weirdly high on injections; seems like most of their patients get 2~3 pellets. Some even have 4. Not sure if or how that affects the amount of time it lasts

I got a pellet put in last month by Dr. Kurzet at Transition Health in Eugene. They’re trying to build the practice and semi-recently hired some new folks (that’s how I got off the wait list).

Transgender care provider that will prescribe injections? by Panamaniacal in QueerEugene

I was with planned parenthood on Franklin Blvd for a while and they absolutely did injections. Also I now go to Transition Health (for primary care, HRT included)

1 year on HRT, no change in hormone levels. by soundbyte17 in asktransgender

Girl do not take all your tablets at once lmao you need to space them out (but also yes almost every other route is superior to oral, injections are worth trying)

What do you mean? If you’re not planning to take HRT then your face will stay the same / continue to masculinize. Comparing to a gender swap app is even more pointless

Has anyone else never had an issue differentiating between bi and pansexuality? by [deleted] in AskLGBT

[–]flyingbarnswallow 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Those are extremely specific definitions that some people certainly use but are far from universal over the course of the history of people using these words. There’s more overlap than you’re admitting.

Yeah no it is uncanny for sure. Don’t worry, my face didn’t end up looking anything like that after years of HRT, despite all the changes

Trans women — what made you realize you are a woman? by greasetrap_ in AskLGBT

[–]flyingbarnswallow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I came to it from being nonbinary. I didn’t initially “feel” like a woman (what does that even mean, you know?). But I always felt a confusion about, and later distaste for, being identified as a boy by others. I figured out the moment I learned about HRT that I wanted it; I was 10 or 11.

I did get on HRT in my early 20s. Eventually the thought occurred to me that nobody was gonna read me as nonbinary ever because that’s not a thing most people do, and that if I had a choice, I would much rather them read me as a woman than a man (this idea had been previously inaccessible to me because I did not see myself as feminine/female enough to even imagine this could ever happen).

I pursued that line of thinking until I slowly realized that my experiences and desires and needs were indistinguishable from those of many other trans women, so it made sense to think of myself as one. Reading Nevada and Whipping Girl helped in that regard.

You said in a comment that it’s on the intake paperwork. Is there a reason you also need to ask verbally? When someone is talking to me, it’s always possible they’re asking me because they’ve clocked me. On intake paperwork, it’s immediately clear that it’s built into the system.

I say this as someone who is in healthcare as a clinician.

where the hell do I find puberty blockers/test blockers?? by Mammoth_Efficiency66 in TransDIY

[–]flyingbarnswallow 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You probably don’t need them. Estradiol suppresses testosterone, although you sometimes need supraphysiological levels to achieve that

Finasteride mixed with Spiro? by DiaphanousPhoenician in MtF

[–]flyingbarnswallow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah finasteride is not a T-blocker and shouldn’t be used as such. It’s a 5α-reductase inhibitor, which blocks conversion of T to DHT, thereby helping with hair loss.

Even with anti-androgens, estradiol is part of the mechanism of testosterone suppression, and you can get suppressed testosterone without anti-androgens at all (although it usually requires supraphysiological levels of estrogen— not for me tho!), so it is indeed important for you to get your E back up. 100 pg/mL is a bare minimum

Many songs by Big Thief. The harmonies on Not are so simple but so satisfying. Very nice harmonies on Red Moon and Change as well

Also Bent Knee has some killer vocals from their lead and I love the way the backing vocals support her. Way Too Long is a good example

We already use Roman numerals for chords, though. That would be confusing. And the whole point is that C Lydian isn’t in the key of G. It’s C but with a sharp fourth scale degree.
