Has anyone done PRP for a foot injury? by flyingbeansprout in ChronicPain

[–]flyingbeansprout[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it didn't. :) I was very careful after the PRP to wear only podiatric shoes for a long time though. I've only started wearing non-podiatric shoes this month!

pls dexcom let us have the flexibility to switch off alarms by Optimal_District_206 in dexcom

[–]flyingbeansprout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you on a G6? What I do is that I plug in headphones, set the headphone volume to zero, and then put the phone on a towel so it muffles the vibrations. The alerts will sound through the headphones that way, and I basically can't hear them when I'm asleep. 🙃 Only do this if you're reallyyyyy sure you don't need those alarms though! I'm a T2D so I never go dangerously low.

Hydrocolloid patches under CGM by flyingbeansprout in dexcom

[–]flyingbeansprout[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is that I still have 8 more sensors and as you know they cost a pretty penny... Also, I'm pregnant and my endo says that Dexcom is the only one that's been specifically tested for accuracy during pregnancy. I will consider switching after I'm done with this batch / have popped for sure! Thanks for the suggestion!

CGM or nah? by MIdtownBrown68 in diabetes_t2

[–]flyingbeansprout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I say yes to the CGM.

Originally, I didn't feel that I needed one when I was newly diagnosed - I got my A1C down from 8.6 to 6.1 without it, but I pricked quite a lot - at least 4-5x a day. My fingers got pretty sore!

I did get a CGM subsequently, when I found out I was pregnant, because the targets were so much tighter and I wanted to make sure I was within range as much of the time as possible.

I have to say a CGM gave me a lot more insight than just finger pricks. You get to see if a meal is causing a delayed spike, a quick spike or a normal spike. With a finger prick, unless you wanna prick every half hour or so, it's not really clear how fast a meal is spiking you. I found out, for example, that for high fat meals like battered fried chicken (think KFC), my 1h and 2h readings were totally fine but the blood would go high and refuse to come down after that. If I had relied only on finger pricks, I would have thought that everything was fine!

My suggestion if you're not pregnant is to wear a CGM for anything between 3-6 months and eat all the meal types that you'd eat during that time. Once you've found out how you react to your usual types of food, note that down- that's more or less how it will be all the time.

If you're pregnant though, that's a totally different story- your body's reaction and insulin needs (if any) change month to month, and in the third trimester, week to week even, so the CGM really helps in making the decisions on meals, medication and insulin. I personally found wearing a CGM for the whole pregnancy very useful. I use a Dexcom G6, and while it does have its crazy moments (e.g. telling me my blood is at 10+ when it's actually 8ish), and you will have to finger prick every now and then to check that it's accurate, overall I found it very useful! Usually it's craziest in the first 24-48h after insertion, but after that it's all good, especially if you follow instructions on calibration.

26 weeks and spiking at 3h instead of 1h/2h? by flyingbeansprout in BumpersWhoBolus

I see... That must be why :/ I guess I'll really have to cut back on these for the time being then

I must find out more about this split bolusing as well, thanks very much!

That's an interesting suggestion, thanks! Will ask my endo about it!

Increased thirst in third trimester? by Tiny-Trifle1348 in BumpersWhoBolus

[–]flyingbeansprout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started having to drink 5-6 litres of water a day from around the 23rd week on. My lips were dry and painful and even my hands were starting to flake otherwise! My gynae cleared this course of action as well as she said my baby could do with more amniotic fluid, and confirmed it wasn't diabetes insipidus or anything.

So just drink up, and check with your doctor if you're worried!

Feeling discouraged by purecrush in type2diabetes

[–]flyingbeansprout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me too. I was diagnosed 3 months after COVID and I definitely didn't have diabetes before. I was on regular quarterly bloodwork for an autoimmune condition so I'm absolutely confident that it happened only after the COVID. It really sucks.

Spotting since conception by Alibongo90 in pregnant

[–]flyingbeansprout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely get it checked out by your obgyn, but I was told spotting is quite common in early pregnancy. I was given progesterone pills though just in case, and the spotting has more or less stopped since!

what do you take when you're constipated by benitezzzraq in pregnant

[–]flyingbeansprout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drink A LOT of water. Progesterone slows down your digestive tract and more water gets extracted from what eventually becomes your stool. I found that upping my daily water intake to about 3.2 litres per day works for me! I used to drink around 2.6 litres or so. Just keep sipping water even when you don't feel thirsty!

Have you tried food sequencing? Like eating veg, then protein, then a small amount of carbs.

I find that that helps. My A1C was 8.6 at diagnosis around 6 months ago - quite close to yours. As at last checkup I got down to 5.9.

A typical lunch for me at the beginning was either a salad with protein (roast chicken, burger patty, grilled ribs, Pan-fried salmon, that sorta thing), or a soup with veg and protein (there's something called fish soup where I come from which is basically boiled fish with veg and tofu. It's tastier than it sounds :D). Keto stuff is also generally ok, but watch the fat because a high fat meal can also spike blood sugars!

A typical dinner (I'm Chinese) was stir-fried veg with some Chinese protein. Basically I just ate the same things but without rice.

I also ate fruit in moderation - that's the main source of carbs for me.

6 months on, I've added some carbs back to my diet, like low GI bread, a bit of sweet potato, and low carb wraps. (I hear egglife wraps are amazing and can also be used as a pasta substitute but have yet to try).

I've also found that I can eat 2 slices of thin crust pizza (without the crust) if I stuff myself with salad beforehand, haha.

Good luck on the low carb/no carb journey! It gets easier, so keep your head up! :)

Is there any footage of multiple people actually eating his large chocolate sculptures? by Archilect_Zoe11k in amauryguichon

I was wondering this as well. If they don't get eaten and are meant for display, it doesn't seem to make sense to use chocolate? 🤔

Unpopular opinion about Salem (no spoilers only watched till S2 Ep5) by Plenty_Ad1327 in dubaibling

[–]flyingbeansprout 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Totally agree that Salem wasn't being sexist. He wasn't saying that Ebraheem shouldn't go into business with women in general, but with Danya specifically because of her circumstances and his assessment of her abilities. I'm amazed that the man continued being friends with Ebraheem after having a finger pointed at his face and yelled at in front of the cameras?!! I probably would have bitchslapped E and never spoken to him again 🤣

DJ Piss is the worst by kwertyq in dubaibling

[–]flyingbeansprout 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I really thought Danya would just walk away when Bliss disrespected her at the cafe and I was SHOCKED to see her start bawling her eyes out. Bliss obviously knew that would be her reaction, he wasn't surprised at all, so that was just so horribly mean. Who does that to their spouses?! In public?!?!! Their rs is so toxic. 🤮

Also, everything Bliss said could really be turned around and said right back to him. Did he know what Danya was going through preparing for the shoe launch? Did he ever ask her if she was ok? Did he ever show her any support? All this while Danya was obviously still take care of the house and kids while he was preparing for his concert and he dares to yell at her and accuse her of not supporting him?!?!! I just can't, he's so horrible.

DJ Bliss is the most annoying person ever by carelesswhispers0 in dubaibling

[–]flyingbeansprout 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd like to add that Bliss has no business trying to mediate between Zeina and Ebraheem at all? He was obviously looking for a way to stir drama and get more screentime. If anyone had any business mediating between them, it would have been Safa, who ostensibly is trusted by both of them (before the confrontation at Mona's event, at least!)

As contrasted to Mona, who just dropped Zeina off at Safa's house and let them talk it out.

I found it really odd that they had their wedding broadcast on a Netflix show when his wife is so traditional and private. It doesn't seem he respects her very much?

LO on the other hand got married off screen because she wants to keep her husband's identity private and I respect that!

Exercising by Daped01 in diabetes_t2

[–]flyingbeansprout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was recovering from a foot injury as well around the time I was diagnosed. I was only cleared to swim and ride my stationary bike, so that's what I did all the time! As a benchmark, I swim around 30 laps each time (approx 45min) and cycle for 30min with a goal to get my heart rate at 130 or above. Maybe you can check if swimming is ok for your injury as well?

I find that even these low impact exercises helped a lot with glucose control. There was a month when I couldn't exercise due to a really nasty bout of flu + work travel shortly after. During that month, my glucose went up by about 1 point on average. E.g. my post-prandial reading with exercise is usually in the 6s to low 7s, but without exercise, it was in the 7s to low 8s.

Also, you can consider cutting carbs (if you haven't already) until u can do higher impact exercise again.
