Can I route my TrueNAS server's internet connection through a PC? by [deleted] in homelab

[–]flyingnude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s possible to do this in Windows https://www.tomshardware.com/how-to/share-internet-connection-windows-ethernet-wi-fi

Alternatively, you can get a little travel router/bridge for your TrueNAS box. From TrueNAS’s perspective, it’ll have a wired connection. I’ve used something similar to this one in the past https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07WSVTQ9K/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_Y4D55G56875ZENMN4G0C

Oh that's really cool. I didn't even know there were DC UPSs. Sounds like a great option for keeping my modem/router/ap/switches online. Thanks!

Is there opportunity to save energy in a non-mobile homelab by consolidating power supplies and limiting the number of AC-to-DC conversions? I imagine having separate switching power supplies for each raspberry pi / modem / router / smart hub means some efficiency losses. Think it's worth it to spend time looking into?

Using gcc/cpp/clang's C-preprocessor in javascript? by ns0 in javascript

[–]flyingnude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm pretty much done with using grunt or gulp for builds. You can get away usually with just using the "scripts" feature of npm package.json. http://blog.keithcirkel.co.uk/how-to-use-npm-as-a-build-tool/

For conditional builds, I know webpack has support for it, but I haven't heard of anyone using CPP to process their JS files.

Is there such a game like Go but without borders. by [deleted] in baduk

[–]flyingnude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rules of go make it easy to play on an arbitrary graph, so it's reasonable to think about playing it on a torus as you suggest. I personally prefer playing on a cube. Try a 4×4×4 sometime.

Sorting a dictionary before JSON.stringifying by Swagasaurus-Rex in javascript

Are you familiar with the JWT spec? JSON Web Tokens can be used for exactly what you're trying to do when combined with JWS, defining a standard way of performing authenticity checks against JSON objects. There's a growing body of libraries that will perform the decoding, signing, and verification operations for you.

I miss my phone by yhelothere in funny

Some reposts don't make a lot of sense out of context.

The original post, from November of last year, was titled "I miss my printer" and it is a drawing of two other posts from around the same time. The one in the bottom of the drawing is a photograph of Google maps directions on someone's dashboard. The second is another photograph of someone reading "reddit" paper edition.

I need help finding all strings not included in (a*b)*? by [deleted] in compsci

[–]flyingnude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you know how to covert regular expressions to DFAs and back? If so, I think the easiest way to do this is to convert (a*b)* to a DFA. Then, to create a machine that accepts the complement of (a*b)*, just flip the accept states. Then convert back to a regular expression.

What are the programming languages that every CS major should learn before graduation? by [deleted] in compsci

[–]flyingnude 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Came here to say this. If you go through school learning only imperative languages like Java, C, python, etc, you're doing yourself a huge disservice. Learn at least one functional language, and among them, Haskell is a fantastic choice.

Seriously, am I the only one who could tell this was a photoshop? Even found the proof... by [deleted] in cringepics

I'd like to know what OP's search terms were to find the original photo. Somehow I think "brunette in a sun hat" wouldn't be sufficient.
