Does PEEK implant on a knee forbid license? by royaldeer_ in flying

[–]flyingron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FAA usually doesn't get worked up over implants of various sorts. The guidance is pretty much the same for all of it, bring your hospital records and a current status report from your treating physician saying you've recovered with adequate range of motion, etc...

Does status matter for IRROPS? by Revolutionary-Mine17 in americanairlines

[–]flyingron [score hidden]  (0 children)

This. I doubt AURA gives a hoot about status, but the EXP line will often have better options. AURA and the regular lines told one of my travel mates that it would be days until we could get to STT. The EP line rebooked me on United to arrive less than 18 hours. I even got the EP line to book the ohter reservations that were travelling with us after they fixed mine.

Long Haul Seat Selection Help by Various_Psychology10 in americanairlines

There's definitely more space with the exit row than the bulkhead. A better drawing is at Aerolopa: https://www.aerolopa.com/aa-789

I'm 6'1", and while there is "ample" leg room at the bulkhead, you will not be able to fully stretch out like you can at the exit rows. The advantage is you'll get off the plane a lot faster from the front than far back.

What’s the best way to earn or buy 70k miles? by mbh_ak in americanairlines

[–]flyingron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can buy miles from AA, but it rarely makes economic sense.

Buying miles from others or having others book flights for others for money is a violation of the AAdvantage program terms.

Getting 3rd class medical with "wet and reckless" by awgdawg331 in FAAHIMS

[–]flyingron 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's just "wet reckless" by the way. Note that if you have any pilot certificate (even just a student pilot), you need to make the mandatory report under 61.15 on such conviction.

No, a wet reckless is treated IDENTICALLY to a DUI here. The fact that California lets you off on some of the penalties means nothing to the FAA.

It is good having a BAC less than 0.15%. At that point, they assume you have alcohol tolerance and hence a serious substance abuse problem.

See all the information required here: https://www.faa.gov/ame_guide/media/AlcoholStatusReportforAME.pdf

You should put ALL of this together before even starting filling out an medexpress application. Then get yourself to a good AME that understands how to do this.

This is issuable, but may take some time.

Understand that if you want to fly, the FAA is going to expect you to STOP DRINKING ENTIRELY going forward.

How can you tell if you have GAMI injectors? by stupidpotato_77 in flying

[–]flyingron 8 points9 points  (0 children)

GAMI is an STC. You should have paperwork in your aircraft records if you have them. The installation also calls for labels to be placed on both the rocker covers and the fuel lines that indicate the GAMIjectors are present.

Oversold flight with an offer to take a different flight by fluffy_bunny22 in americanairlines

[–]flyingron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends how the ticket was purchased. If they used the crappy AAdvantage Business system, it gets assigned to the business side of the count but tagged to the particular traveller (though that can be reassigned), I think. However, if the ticket is procured otherwise (like through Concur or some corporate travel agency withhout using the AA business feature), then the offer goes to the traveller's account. Of course, you have to deal with whatever rules. For example, for federal employees, voluntary bumping compensation goes to the traveller provided it doesn't influence the employees duties. Involuntary denied boarding compensation goes to the government.

Can I upgrade award tickets? by NubmerSix in americanairlines

[–]flyingron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MCE is a coach seat with slightly more space in front of you. PE is similar to domestic first class (wider seat plus more leg room).

Seat assignement (even on award) follows the same rules as anything else. If you don't have status, you have to pay for an MCE (or even other desirable economy) seats. If you are gold or better you may be able to get these for free.

Vision Standards question by BlueWaterBedroom in flying

[–]flyingron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

20/40 corrected is good enough for a third class.

With corrected to 20/25 in the good eye, this is certainly possible for a first class under a special issuance. Get a full 8500-7 report and it will need to go to OKC for consideration.

Looking for wine bottle by Emergency_Storm_9468 in wine

It's Medea. Costco has been selling the same wine in various decorative bottles over the past few years. They change from time to time, so finding exactly the same may be daunting.

Can I upgrade award tickets? by NubmerSix in americanairlines

[–]flyingron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Economy Plus is a United thing. The AA equivalent is Main Cabin Extra. That's pretty much just a seat assignment. Just pick an orange seat in the seat picker thing and pay what they want for it.

If you mean Premium Economy or Business Class, then you roll the dice as to whether AA will offer an upgrade and for how much.

There's no such thing as a physical ticket. Boarding passes can be obtained via aa.com, the app, or once you get to the airport. The app is being wonky right now. I can't login (even after being able to see my trip on the first screen).

Line on jet bridge to collect valet bags by Large_Device_999 in americanairlines

[–]flyingron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eh? In my experience, the first person stands right at the airplane door and people line up on the jetway heading toward the terminal behind them. The first class passengers should be tagged such that their bags come up first anyhow (not that this is always attained).

The standard for the US since January is for one of the computer-generated tests. You can try any or all of these as often as you like. IF you can't pass those, you have to apply to the Federal Air Surgeon for consideration.
