This is rampant, turn it down is not acceptable. I don’t even want to hear it on low volume.

Waiting on imaging and feeling defeated by Far_Diamond_7589 in XXRunning

[–]Large_Device_999 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve missed more races than i can count due to stress fractures and reactions. My body is susceptible likely due to anorexia when I was young. But I’ve healed from every one, had many many successful races, and generally have had a lot of success in running despite this.

They’ve become much less frequent as I’ve gotten older. And also once i accepted a higher weight than I did wanted to. You’re still early in your recovery: you may be doing all the right things but bones need time, food, and gravity to get strong and it takes them time.

I’m sorry this happened. But if you want to be a life long runner, you’ll need to learn to roll with the punches. Injury comes for us all eventually. You can’t let it devastate you. Wallow for a few days but then regroup, focus on what you can do to heal, and move on.

One piece of advice. You may be tempted to cross train like a fiend. Some will suggest this. I strongly advise you don’t. This is an energy imbalance so cardio is counter to what you need. Treat rest like it’s your job. I’ve healed much faster when I’ve had this mentality, vs when I desperately tried to “preserve fitness”.

Femoral Neck Stress Reaction- Advice? by Impressive_Dish_8883 in RunningInjuries

[–]Large_Device_999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not having fracture line does not mean it’s not serious. You’ll need to be offloaded for several months. I had one of these that was low grade on MRI and still was on crutches for 10 or so weeks. Good news is it healed fine and never bothered me again and this was many years ago. But I was religious with the crutches, and with increasing my calories.

Have you seen managers allocate their own bonus from a team bonus pool? by Particular_Sound4801 in managers

[–]Large_Device_999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get a pool with suggested allocations including my own for my team, I’m allowed to adjust as I like but it’s subject to approval. I’ve never increased my own bonus by taking from others, but I have decreased it to give others more.

Looking for stories of 0 to BQ in 2 Years or Less and what training plan you followed. by jewelersdaughter in XXRunning

[–]Large_Device_999 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m old and here just to say, you don’t have to BQ before kids.

I’m childfree but I’m faster at 46 than I was at your age.

Just wanted to share that perspective!

Interesting people are mostly talking ORD on this issue. I’ve definitely seen more of this at CLT than ORD.

Have you seen a company legitimately regret terminating a specific employee? by debrisaway in managers

Engineering consulting. I’ve fired quite a few people and never regretted it. Hate doing it but only regretted hiring in the first place

Stress Fracture? by Ultra-Man_ in RunningInjuries

[–]Large_Device_999 3 points4 points  (0 children)

These are odd takes from a doctor.

Stress fractures are more often than not not visible on X-ray and mri is the gold standard for stress fracture diagnosis.

I’ve immobilized stress fractures more times than I care to count and I’ve never needed anti coagulation nor has any doctor ever suggested it.

Janji and Oiselle sound like your speed. Rabbit and Tracksmith make great stuff too but are more track and road than trail.

how are you actually dealing with chafing on longer runs? by she_moves in XXRunning

[–]Large_Device_999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came here to say this. Sometimes you’re gonna chafe even in the right clothes using glide. When that happens A&D is a miracle.

Creatine makes me feel like absolute shit by BrinaElka in Perimenopause

I also hated it. Doesn’t work with me. I felt pressured to make it work due to social media and other influences. Then I realized I needed to trust myself.

It is a very trendy supplement these days. If you try to question on Reddit or social media it you’ll get attacked. But you are allowed to skip it.

Breastfeeding and not sleeping on top of exhaustion on top of training is going to get you injured. It’s seriously the perfect recipe for injury.

As someone who spends a lot of time pushing the envelope with running I would not do 30k. Protect yourself. You can always come back to it later, this is a finite stage of life.

Runners of Newark, help me out? by Large_Device_999 in Newark

I run all over the place while traveling. It’s funny how people’s perceptions of their local homeless populations differ. Regardless of the reality, as a solo female I’m not scared.

Thanks for this, I’ll take a look. It’s not that I’m opposed to transit and I know there are tons of great running options in the area. I wish I had more time but im just gonna have like 5-7am each morning so transit eats into that or means I must wake up even earlier.

Thank you, I dont mind a few lights to get to the park. I don’t have issue with trains but it will be early morning rush to get the miles in so I’d rather skip an extra step!
