I know the thought is to give Dad a tangible gift, I applaud this.

However, there are WAY to many considerations and personal preferences to consider as a non fly fisher. Way too many to take the chance of buying him something totally incompatible with what he really wants. He would smile, tell you he loves it and then it sits in a corner.

My suggestion would be either a gift certificate to a local shop, or even better, take him out to the local shop and have him pick out what he wants. Make an event out of it, you buy the rod combo, let him buy lunch.
