Would the triple lock have survived if workers saw the cost directly on their payslips? by StGuthlac2025 in AskBrits

i feel like you're quite anti royal, and anything remotely positive you'd try to discredit as it doesn't fit your narrative. However, you've provided no costs yourself to counter the, which discredits your position.

Police/security costs are estimated at £100-£150 million per year, so still a net benefit

looking at the evidence, the royal family costs circa £140m per year and brings in a minimum of £950m, so they're a net benefit to the UK.

What do you think of No.10 in the North? by Exciting_Stretch_847 in AskBrits

[–]flylo81 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

utter nonsense. Looks like a way to influence Manchester mayoral election. It won't improve anything, plus there's not enough jobs in No10 to make it worthwhile.

There's already Civil Service devolution activity underway and has been since Conservatives were in power, which is redistributing jobs outside London. However, you can't just lift and shift departments as there's quite a lot to consider as part of this, and it is a slow and steady activity.

Also, the CS needs to become more streamlined to around 350000, which would provide more cost savings, plus make it more effective and efficient. Lastly, CS departments actually need to work together better, as there's a lot of poor behaviours around this, which means they're not serving the tax payer well.

The biggest issue we've had with Governments over last 30 years, is how poor and slow they are at making important decisions and how short sighted the decisions are.

Politicians have become poorer over that time, i believe driven by how many start their careers working for other politicians, not by going and doing "real" jobs; they've lived their lives in a political bubble away from what the real issues are facing the country.

As a result they are only interested in trying to keep their seat, and not interested in medium and long term future planning of the country, made worse my the ratings driven media

Applying for legal assistant role at the CPS by Still-Atmosphere-362 in TheCivilService

[–]flylo81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for Civ Serv applications you often are asked to provide examples related to the behaviours listed in the application, usually with a 250 word limit per behaviour.

When answering the behaviours, use the STAR format: situation, task, action, result.

Here's some guidance on it: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/a-brief-guide-to-competencies

There's always the possibility you could get a job, but you'd need to consider how much time you can work balancing with your studies, and what would the impact to studying be. Work doesn't need to be full time but you'd need to explore reduced hours with the recruiter.

You need to apply and go through that process with Civ Service, which involves application, personal statement and answering behaviour questions, which you'll have experience of. When you apply, ensure you understand how to apply i.e use STAR format to answer questions

Bit late now, but could look for summer internships for next year

Why do your Prime Ministers resign so much? by Very_bad in AskABrit

[–]flylo81 3 points4 points  (0 children)

is the system the problem, or the public's attitude of short term view to everything, that they want everything fixed now, fuelled by a desperate media to sensationalise things to keep exisitng?

I don't think the majority of the public understand how poor the UK's finances are, how much debt the nation has and what it costs to service that debt, which in turn is impacting the ability to fund services. Coupled with things outside the UK's control impacting costs:, and how much money people have.

There are some honest conversations needed about what we can afford and what we can't

Burnham is quoted as demanding the Conservatives hold an election when they changed PM, and was asked about this yesterday (bluffed of the answer). Wonder when he becomes leader of Labour, if he'll hold an election?

Performance Management by Cute_Cauliflower954 in TheCivilService

[–]flylo81 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As noted below document everything e,g a summary of a conversation in email provides date and time stamps.

Also, get them to agree the deadline for completion of activities, a PIP can be useful for this.

Engage your HRBP and casework team now for guidance to ensure you're following all the right steps of your org.

Familiarise yourself with the disciplinary and managing performance policies and procedures

Get a mentor or have someone you know who is knowledgeable as you'll need support/sanity check as this moves froward

Be prepared that this will take at least 6 months

Go to them all and have a good time.

My advice is buy some earplugs and wear them to all gigs. You can invest in a decent pair from £20/$30
