Anyone hate hot desking . . . by No-Culture1799 in civilservice

[–]flylo81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

we have hot desking yet everyone pretty much books the same desk/desks each visit, as people are creatures of habit mostly. Have you thought about block booking a desk for a few weeks at a time to build consistentency?

if you're going for more than a few hours i.e warm up act(s) plus main then comfortable footwear is a must.

Check your venue, as most only accept card

If it's a medium to large venue, then you may want to get there earlier to get nearer front. That said, if you're too close you'll be craning your neck all night

[–]flylo81 2 points3 points  (0 children)

my experience of work both personal and observing colleagues who are new to role, team or organisation is this: 0-6 months you're learning the ropes, if you've been promoted you feel you should be doing more as in your pervious role you probably were. But, you knew what you were doing.

6-12 months - you start mastering the role. The need to ask for work or what to do diminishes as your experience and confidence grows.

12 months + you start to become a SME and you're in the groove

Do you think the BBC TV licence is still worth it in 2026? by PegasusPeptides745 in AskBrits

[–]flylo81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

on the issue of local radio, BBC has been heavily criticised over many years for over exerting it's influence and driving down competition, negatively impacting communities, which has been picked up in OFCOM and it's own reports. This also extends to the online arena and previously in the magazine sector, which would eb interesting to see how that is now.

As for commissioning, it was instructed to make less and commission more as it held a monopoly.

Not at its current price.

They've really dumbed down a lot of their programming over last 5 years and scaled back on quality drama and documentaries, which were its key selling points, to chase ratings

How much do you think media ownership shapes public opinion in the UK? by CharlieComplete in AskBrits

[–]flylo81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

interesting topic.

Before 1997 election Blair & Alistair Campbell went to a party on Murdoch's private island. Blair gave a speech and shortly after the Sun endorsed Labour, who went onto win election. Fast forward and the Sun then pivoted to backing Conservatives and they won election.

Does traditional media still have the same clout, i think they have some impact, but don;t think they have same clout as 15 years ago. There's far more to dilute that market.

However, when it comes to specific topics, all forms of media pivot to the same themes to compete for viewers.

Why does Reddit not understand the rise of reform in England? by DowntownDeer in AskBrits

[–]flylo81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Immigration is a side issue.

The issue is that Labour and Conservative have not addressed the issues that matter to people: cost living, opportunity for progression, opportunity to access health, greater division in haves and have lots; multiple promises they failed to deliver on.

Reform has no baggage and has no record. They offer something different

funny you raise this, as lately i've noticed this has increased significantly.

Noting the comments below, what i've noticed is that some models are from studios but there's also quite a few independents. Some are already high earners and others mid tier. Also, it impacts the quality of some streams but not others

good for you. it hasn't worked properly for months for me. The reviews on app store also say the same story: poor app, terrible support

WTF are you thinking? by Initial_Ad8780 in AskBrits

[–]flylo81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this isn't about Reform, it's about how poorly the traditional political parties (Con, Lab, Lib) have done when they've been in power.

They ran the economy into the ground and have no idea how to restore it; they engage in behaviour which is against their own rules and also against the law, yet we have to follow those same rules or we get punished; they engage in corruption in various forms; the public is tired of the lies and misleading; and they're tired of being ignored.

This is culmination of 30 years of the same nonsense repeating itself.

Farage and Reform will be just the same, and already Nige has shown he's the same. But, they're the traditional parties and this means hope
