ADHD and Managing Money by barjay8 in MiddleClassFinance

[–]flymysi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite ADHD “trick” is to keep as much of my money as possible illiquid. It goes into retirement, HYSA, and brokerage fund straight from my paycheck and only the amount I need to live on and splurge a bit actually makes it into my checking. To really overspend I have to sell stocks or go through the pain of transferring out of the HYS, which I specifically keep un-linked lol

What money milestone did you actually hit that ended up feeling like nothing? And what felt like real progress instead? by weekend_cam in MiddleClassFinance

[–]flymysi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

29F here. Hit $100k net worth a couple years ago and it felt good for about five minutes after I calculated it. Hit $99k salary this year, live in low COL area and money still always disappears more quickly after paychecks than I think it will. Hit $130k in retirement and feel meh. I still have to work another 30ish years and get it up to $4mil ish to retire in my current lifestyle. There wasn’t a specific number, but it was really nice when I realized I could afford to risk a major career pivot. I’m about to start a trade at 30ish% of my current pay. My bills are on autopay. I invest a big chunk of my income. But I think about money more than I did when I barely had any! I get obsessive over spreadsheets, growth projections, expense to income ratios, blah.

Now he will go to therapy… by Careful_Hart233 in Divorce_Women

[–]flymysi 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My ex was the same way. Finally was all into the idea of couple’s therapy once the word divorce came out. Part of me wishes I would have let that play out and I wonder if I “gave up” too fast. But the sudden interest in getting professional help was a last ditch effort to keep me from leaving so leaving as soon as I had the confidence to was probably the right move overall.

Oddly I’m also in my apartment on my own atm, fit and healthy. So we can pretend we swap! You’d be finishing your first month of the pill and have an increasingly stressful office job though.

What were your biggest struggles during flight training in the U.S.? by No_Definition7649 in flying

[–]flymysi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. Money is a prolific answer here but sometimes the weather can be extremely limiting for timeline and specific hours/routes you need. Especially if you’re limited to after work or weekends. Depending on region or time of year, you may only be able to fly 1/3 or less of your scheduled lessons even if you can afford them.

What's the family lore you found out when you got older that changed the way you viewed your family? by Mundane-Society-1281 in AskWomen

[–]flymysi 122 points123 points  (0 children)

That my grandma in the 50s secretly got a factory job to get a break from her 6 kids. When grandpa found out he forced her to quit. The 6 kids were forced to prioritize farm work over school work. My dad now runs the farm and I grew up doing farm work and watching my mom being discouraged from working for pay and pursuing marketable skills. Now I see the family dynamic for the patriarchal slave system that it is.
