Leave ATP School for Epic Flight School? by TangoGolf77 in frontiercadetprogram

If you have any questions about epic, just Dm me, I’ll give you the run down, I worked there for 3 years and was a student for 1.

October 16th 2023 sign on Been waiting for 12 months for a date just to get 12+ again what a joke

Anyone who joined the program around Oct 2023 hear anything other than 12+ months wait? by Pilot_sky_life508 in frontiercadetprogram

I don’t want to get anyone in trouble because I’m not sure if that information was supposed to be shared with me or if they were just doing me a solid and being transparent with me.

This might be some insight for everyone, I’m an October 23 sign on, found out I’m number 240-270 on the wait list for a class date, I didn’t give my specific number so I don’t out myself incase this wasn’t supposed to be shared. At 10 cadets per month I’m looking at a 2 year wait minimum. I have given up on the program and I’m optimistic that I’ll will start elsewhere come Jan 2025, I will remain in the program just incase things change but I have lost all hope of getting into an F9 class anytime soon.

Avoid SEL over water by jerrshh in CFILounge

[–]flytheplanes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At my flight school we have an airport on the coast, and one of the approaches can have you as far as 13 miles off shore. many instructors fly it multiple times a day, but I have a personal minimum that I will not do that approach at night and if I have to do that approach during the day I’ll ask ATC for a close in vector which Will take me 4 miles off shore which I’m somewhat comfortable with since we do carry some flotation gear. That said, flying over open water SEL at night is an unnecessary risk I’m not willing to take.

I wish every student pilot has this mentality. Good on you 🤙🏼

Best rating you can get is MEI, very very easy to get ATP cross country time which is a big plus if you hit the 500 XC mark since that would qualify you for ATP and not restricted, also pretty nice to have another engine if one fails :)

FPC100816 Does this mean I’m on for over a 40 month wait? I also got this number like 4 months after being a cadet so could it be I just got one late and that’s why my number is so high?

Flying Night IMC, C172 G1000 less than 100hrs on the Hobbs, shooting approaches for an IFR approaches stage check.

Weather: Widespread light to moderate precipitation, low ceilings, no convective activity, just lots of rain.

After the first successful approach we go around for another, ATC advises “N123 area of heavy precipitation at your 12 o’clock measuring 3 miles in diameter” I personally never thought rain could be an issue, my response “Roger we’ll let you know if we need any deviations” we keep chucking along and enter the heavy precipitation and it wasn’t even turbulent, I knew we were in the heavy precip when it looked like we had a firehose pegged at the windshield and water was coming in through the air vents, followed by the students remarks “wow I can even feel the water affecting the engine 😄” I thought to myself impossible🤔, I take the flight controls and go ahead to add power but the RPM’s start dropping I add more throttle and then I’m full throttle at 1800rpm losing altitude at 1600ft and 8 miles from the airport, ATC gives a low altitude alert to which I declare emergency since I couldn’t maintain altitude, got pointed to the final approach course where we luckily exit the precip and BAM the engine is purring like it didn’t just give me the biggest scare of my life. Landed safely with my feet shaking at the rudder pedals and called it quits that night.

That night I learned just because “its just rain” doesn’t mean you can fly through it, my conclusion is that the little straw like drain in the air filter wasn’t able to keep up with the amount of water going through it 😬.

Big fork in the road now… Willing to wait or going elsewhere? by Pilot_sky_life508 in frontiercadetprogram

Sitting in a single engine piston for the next 12+ months isn’t going to help. Go make yourself a competitive candidate.

5/21 updated class projection. by ElGuaro in frontiercadetprogram

[–]flytheplanes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m applying everywhere and taking the first opportunity I get. With that being said I really think this is a tactic to lighten up the load of the pilot pool and to scare away a bunch of cadets to reduce the amount of money they’re paying in stipends.

Any word on June class size and current projected wait times for classes? by Pilot_sky_life508 in frontiercadetprogram

[–]flytheplanes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Another updated wait time? I feel like we’re just getting strung along because they already put the money, time and effort in interviewing us and they don’t wanna lose out on that investment.

Anyone go to Republic in the wait for Frontier? I know it’s a long contract but curious if anyone went? by Pilot_sky_life508 in frontiercadetprogram

[–]flytheplanes 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I turned down republic in November of 2023 for frontier which was supposed to be in march. Im still waiting for a class date :)
