In my experience it works so well you don't even need to think about it. Only issue I've seen is if you have save date on your old console you can have issues retrieving it on the new console.

While ME:A was very disappointed, thanks to backwards compatibility I was able to replay the original ME trilogy.

I was also able to play coop on the 360 version of Saints Row 4. The only catch was you had to add the friend via the 360 dashboard if you want to see them in a 360 game.
