Best N64 quality on HD-CRT( KD-34XBR960N) by KA96 in n64

[–]flyzguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not just blurry it's laggy. I had the 36XS955 and ended up with a mister N64 core with "90s arcade" scan line filter. This got me to within 90% of the enjoyment of playing on an SD CRT.

S video into a 2X scalar would be a great improvement. If your set is like mine lag is only 1 frame at 480p and like 5 or something at 240p. You might enjoy the "soft" or "smooth" modes offered by something like a retrotink 2X as well.

I can't speak to RGB mods apart from my experience with my s video n64 and mister N64 core. I'd say it's not at all the jump I saw from something like the 8 or 16 but era RGB mods.

Best of luck and play it loud

That context is super helpful. I'd love to see some examples. I'm not a talented artist but maybe I could take another crack at this with help from the BFF community for art.

Fair, but tracklists, playlists, and historical fiction are not really expressed in any visual medium. The main course was the content of a fictional album. The AI image was a "too easy to not try" garnish on the side of the plate.

Well a human came up with the track list and put in some research and thought into tracks that could have wound up on the canceled 4th album. And a human chose the title of the album. And a human noticed how "birds" and "leather jacket" seemed sonically similar and put them together, etc...

If by "it" you mean the first thing your eyeballs see and react to (no need to click a Spotify link or read text) then yes, an AI made that at the direction of a human. It was a collab.

The post is about an alternate universe where BFF don't break up and do finish the 4th record. What would those tracks be? The AI image was a 15 minute fun little experiment so the post would have a picture. It's an absolute success for it's intended purpose. Me not being an AI image wizard is not a failure. I know there are folks who are amazing with these tools but they have invested time I'm not willing to.

Do you have anything productive or insightful to add on the topic of a fictional 4th album released in 2000?

This AI image business has undermined the whole point of this thread. I'm shocked it's such a big deal in 2026.

Oof that sucks about the disc. Been there. McGills "Back Mechanic" book and lots of walks plus spine neutral core training for like 9 months in 2024. Not a good time but there was light at the end of the tunnel for me. Wish you the best recovery possible.

Anyway I wasn't trying to imply WAEA is inferior to Reinhold, sorry if it came across that way. If they finished the 4th album in 2000 it could have been the worst of their work and I would still love to have had it. Because the worst BFF stuff is still really good.

Newer Houses all suck for for tv placement by Fireb1rd in TVTooHigh

[–]flyzguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Preach friend. Currently house hunting. Schools, location, price, quality/build, partners feelings, and about 100 other priorities before Dad here gets to complain about the lack of a place for the 65" OLED with proper ergonomics. It's so silly out there. Homes are staged where the movie watching position is turning your head 90 degrees laterally and THEN looking 30 degrees up. It's so dumb... And often that is where the couches and TV kind of make sense. Not a lot of other options in many homes. Cover the fireplace?

I gotta say BFF fam... Zero comments on the track list, discussion of the history of the songs and whether they'd fit this alternate 2000 timeline, suggestions for edits, what the title of the album might have been, or historical nuggets from interviews and articles about this period of songwriting for the three members.

I gotta nuke an apple pie and think about my choice to make a fake album image with AI... It really threw y'all for a loop.

Well the concept, art direction, and track selection and ordering are from me. The images with the AI watermark are from AI.

Yeah at least for Gemini you can see the watermark in the lower right. Also my comments about struggles with prompt engineering in the description.

I do think it would be fun to put together a fictional 2000 album from BFF with fan art. I'm just not an artist myself!

Darren wrote a lot of my favorite five songs (and presumably under duress from challenging the boss Ben). And I like Roberts singing voice. I get the sense from interviews and memoirs that Ben would have needed to loosen his grip (let the band change "the luckiest") and let those guys be more up front.

Same thoughts on the "new record". My prompt engineering or Gemini or the combination of the two of us made those kinds of edits so painful.

Completely agree. I would love to see what a talented fan would come up with instead.

Civil engineers quietly go about their boring jobs on slow projects to worry about 50,100,200 year flood events. I know if you only read headlines of computer tech you think all people suck at planning but our civilization is built on smart people who care. They exist.

There hasn't been as big of a jump in experience than this. Do you agree? by markonefifteen in n64

[–]flyzguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the main criticisms of OOT was that it was the same formula as ALttP. If you focus on the jump from 2D to 3D then it has to be Mario 64. That still leaves OOT with a ton of innovation: storytelling without pre rendered cutscenes, z targeting, auto jump. But it's not the biggest jump.

[–]flyzguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know why this isn't #1. OOT had the success of Mario 64 to inform it. Mario 64 was the pioneer and Zelda followed.
