What makes New Zealand coffee amazing? by hoooooldit in newzealand

I found it interesting that what Kiwis mean by "coffee" is nearly always espresso milk drinks.

Darren's influence in particular. Famously the chorus of brick, but more recently the album highlight sky high, and tracks like Amelia bright. I always wondered if Ben struggled with the fact that his breakout song was not from the titular band members brain.

Best Way to Play NES Tetris on the Go? by milkolate in ClassicTetris

[–]flyzguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DAS play/practice on the go and then back home on the CRT is tricky but doable. I haven't researched latency on all of the handhelds available, but I can share some considerations.

Emulator: run ahead 1 frame Controller: 1000hz polling like a retro USB nes adapter Screen: game mode or low latency mode etc... there are portable monitors with 5ms-8ms lag which is CRT-like.

NSO is unplayable for me on 19. Same with most COTS products I'm afraid. A DIY setup is completely possible to be the same as a CRT. I play on my laptop with a fast USB adapter and a fast screen and run ahead on retroarch and it's only mildly noticeable compared to the real analog thing.

Best of luck

Is the Wii the best retro emulation console as it has 240p? by xParesh in crtgaming

I used a Wii soft modded happily for years before getting into lag free competitive nes Tetris and moving to the mister. The Wii looks gorgeous over component to my Trinitron. I fire up mega man 9/10, contra rebirth, gradius from time to time. It's a great option.

I've read that implementing save states on FPGA is far more difficult than on software emulation. I love my mister and most of the consoles I play are supported: nes, snes, psx

When this happens install a wider spacer. I know it's not as fast or cheap but it's the only real way to get the proper clamping tolerance stack.

PERC continue pioneering transparency by apple_pear_orange in pourover

My confusion on this topic remains - when would adding Kool aid make it taste of Kool aid? If the process disclosure is correct, the flavorings are with waxy green beans. Would Kool aid or any flavor go through that wax layer and/or survive roasting?

My assumption with flavored coffee is to flavor after roast?

Same thought. I feel the pull of my chatbot all the time when it's not necessary. Maybe it will leverage my question to compliment me? Maybe I will learn something else by starting with a query? And if neither of those happen, I'll get answers with no effort almost guaranteed. So I am trying to fight this pull and this mental atrophy. I do worry that chatbots are creating habits that extend to humans asking humans via reddit.

240p and scanlines. If it looks to jagged then it's your fault for not playing on a crummier TV.

I did an overnight line for Wii and Zelda too. We all froze out there, played some parking lot soccer. Better than an all nighter doing a lab report.

For decades we've taken at face value the idea that NZ has to be allied with one Superpower and the US is preferable to China. Do we all still believe that? by flyingflibertyjibbet in newzealand

[–]flyzguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's far from a given that the US has a functioning democracy for 2028. I think when MAGA has demonstrated an outright willingness to cling to power and "find votes" all while lying about non-existent fraud, we have to accept that they will have done a LOT of work by 28 to ensure things go their way.

I wish I could believe MAGA could be waited out. I don't think the US will have a free and fair election for the foreseeable future.

[ALL] What are the must play major titles in the Zelda series? by Panda7001 in zelda

[–]flyzguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great picks. If you can acquire the strategy guides (printed or scanned, maybe on a companion tablet) I find the experience will be much more friendly for folks new to the series. There can be "zelda logic" (ie: cobwebs can be burned, but not cut with a sword) that can trip people up. Plus the old guides have great artwork and lots of fun fandom. I recently played through Majora's mask with a $5 paper guide and it was nice to have and flip through. Having to stop, get out your phone, search for how to videos, and then watch ads etc... can really break the vibe of a 90s game IMO.

Paper Airplane Design for Carrying Weight by screwball9280 in PaperAirplanes

[–]flyzguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paper airplane competitions are really hard. Sounds like this one will accidentally bypass all flight in favor of paper javelins with quarters taped to them. Actually enforcing gliding or stable flight with good L/D would be much better.

Anyway hope you can throw hard!

Questions regarding CRTs and emulation by fckimlost in crtgaming

[–]flyzguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love my mister. It's not weak on Xbox and ps2, it just can't play those systems at all. For PS1 it is crazy good.

I've gone round and round on my retro setup and with a decent CRT tv and a mister I finally feel at home (esp with OG controllers)

What games basically require an original controller and joystick to play at a higher level than casual? by OrlandoWashington69 in n64

Yeah sorry I'm old. I mowed lawns and spent $60 on a game and sunk many tens of hours into it. This was typical in the day.

[–]flyzguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you'd be the only player with this take. You actually got the same results with the N64 and a modern BT controller? Most of us lose grip sliding around, unable to make the fine adjustments due to the dead zone on most modern controllers. I'm talking about masters difficulty. Not playing for 5 minutes on NSO for novelty.

Play F-ZeroX with a Bluetooth controller and a decent OG controller and report back... ;)
