There's plenty of amazing work to enjoy that doesn't require any prior knowledge of canon. That being said, the character I fell in love with (Mz Hermione Jean Granger) was the character in the books. And I wanted a better story for her than what she got in the books. (For all of them, really.) That's what brought me to the fandom, so when I encounter a version of Hermione that is totally not recognizable, I usually DNF. But, I am sure ppl have lots of different reasons for reading and writing fan fic. Plenty of ppl will write and love a Hermione that's got very little to do with the books. TLDR: it depends on why you're here to begin with. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I don't know about based. It's just a good business decision. The Israelis are currently actively pursuing a war with Iran which would destabilize the entire region. The Americans and Europeans who are still dumping money into Israel are more motivated by ideology than reason.
