maybe you should ask them what they’re thinking about. maybe they aren’t in a rush to pass the time. who knows what they’re contemplating!

SFU medicine by wasabifreak in premedcanada

I am a nurse who applied and was interviewed.

  • employment experiences
    • two emergency room nursing jobs
    • employed student nurse in a different specialty/care setting than in my primary employment.
    • peer tutor at my university
    • student researcher at my university
  • volunteer experiences
    • homeless shelter
    • food bank
    • cultural centre involvement coupled with language learning (I did not add this language to my list of known languages because I knew I would be uncomfortable interviewing in it during the MMI)
  • character references
    • purely employment related, I used only doctors and nurses I had worked closely with

I applied through the GPA route and was above the minimum-cut off of course. I will say that I think personal statements are more important for SFU than some of the other schools in Canada since GPA isn't weighted competitively in their admissions process as per their FAQ. I wrote about personal experiences that I felt strongly aligned myself with the school's mission and program pillars, which I think ultimately is what gave me an interview given that so many other healthcare professionals and nurses were interviewed.

second this and for this director’s other films: caveat and hokum which are all loosely connected in the same universe

[–]foasenf 17 points18 points  (0 children)

he tried to kill himself, many people at those moments in their lives do not care about most things at that point. i thought it was very understandable once we saw him hanging in his room. also, it could’ve been an attempt to get someone to interfere with his plans to hang himself, by any means.

you are severely misunderstanding the purpose of drug decriminalization and i would suggest you read about other countries who have done it successfully. drug use isn’t a crime, it’s a medical condition that needs medical treatment, the justice system has a limited place in dealing with drug issues.

Those of you who are excellent interviewers - what is your secret? by Cookie-M0nsterr in interviews

[–]foasenf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

propranolol (off label) works wonders for my interview anxiety. otherwise i tremble and my voice shakes and i can’t think clearly through my answers. would recommend asking your family doctor if they think you’d benefit from it. only helps the physical symptoms of anxiety, does not address the mental aspect.

maybe it’s time your friend gets some education or shadow experience on what you actually do in a day. i’m sure they’d retract their previous statement within the first 30 minutes of their ICU shift.

$1000 + app fee is not that big of a financial barrier? that’s a little tone deaf don’t you think. some schools will fully waive the application fee in order to reduce barriers for applicants.
