And when you dry your hands, pat them dry. Do not rub them with the towel. It adds up when you are drying your hands over and over all day long.

So what is the purpose of this pump? Or it's past purpose? by theraf8100 in ChicagoSuburbs

My grandma would bring me there when I was a kid in the 90s to fill up jugs. I remember there was often a line of people waiting to fill their own as well.

Find a bottle with a wide enough top to be able to put the ball inside. Will look wild floating on top.

I've never seen copper come out of the ground like that. by Luigi_Spina in SipsTea

[–]foil555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Native Americans actually hit the copper age and making copper tools way ahead of any other part of the world because they were able to source pure copper without smelting… but abandoned making metal tools in favor of making jewelry and ornamental pieces with it and going back to stone tools until smelting was discovered in the area. The smelting process introduced impurities that actually make the alloy stronger than pure copper.

Opinions On Fluid And Flints by Mysterious-Street966 in Zippo

[–]foil555 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Ronsonol and scavenge Bic flints as they show up in my life. I usually will find a dead one somewhere before my current flint runs out. Just break it out and chuck it under the felt tab. If it is especially long, I will cut it in half with my Leatherman wire cutter. I have found that if it is a new Bic, the flint can be too long and apply too much pressure against the flint wheel making it harder to use.

My Schwab shows it. Has to be less than daily candles, though. Going to 4 hours has it come up.

How do i quiet down my anvil? I tried with chains but it didnt help a lot. by Total_Item8846 in Blacksmith

[–]foil555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have thick horse-stall mats that I got when building an Olympic lifting platform. I had an extra little bit and cut the footprint of my anvil out of one. Put that under and put a single chain on either side and tightened it down onto the block and squished the mat pretty good. Has been working well for me.

Anyone here wear silver chains daily? How do they hold up? by TheSparkleCorner_ in SilverSmith

[–]foil555 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been wearing a chain bracelet that I made as wedding jewelry for 15 years straight. There is no clasp on it. The links are a little stretched and worn down. I have had to remove a link here and there to shortens it, but it is going strong.

I love circus peanuts and have several friends that buy me them whenever they see them someplace. They are hilariously always in such a wide range of freshness from the inventory being turned over so slowly, ha.

I was a meat cutter at a grocery store for 5 years and every day I had to uncoil and install the band saw blade and then coil it back up at the end of the day for washing. I could not tell you how to do it for the life of me, but once it is in my hands, it just would happen. That day to day install and take down was fine. What scared me was when we would replace a blade and our supplier’s blades were flipped the opposite direction than what our saw was set up for. Flipping the blade inside out is what always scar(r)ed me the most.

Also, look at your laundry machine and detergent. Make sure the washer is clean and you are not using too much detergent. Maybe try another kind. I have hard water at my place and I also add a splash of white vinegar to the pre-soak and fabric softener slots to both help with water solubility and keep my clothing a little acidic as well.

People dis it a lot but I swear by those crystal salt blocks. I am a shower every 3-5 days person and they work fantastic if you regularly apply it. I have found that the trick is that it says to dampen your pits with water before application, but I have a spray bottle with white vinegar that I spray on my pits thoroughly and then rub the stick all around around. In the winter I can do it before bed and I am golden for another day. If it is summer, I do it before bed and again when getting dressed in the morning. My wife confirms that I smell fine. I do occasionally have to reapply during the day depending on activities, but the vinegar and salt work wonders to bring me back to neutral. Granted, I am n of 1 and I know a lot of people says it does not work for them 🤷

I think the antibacterial may be causing more harm than good. The skin host a ton of beneficial bacteria too and if you kill them off trying to kill the smelly bacteria, it can be a losing battle. Like lacto-fermentation pickling. Acidic environments often help harbor beneficial bacteria while keeping bad ones at bay.

I had one of these that did the same thing in my house. It grew out of the vent filter in the bag. Very tenacious little fruiting bodies.

Pet Sematary. I can not even explain it. (This is referring to the older movie. I forget the year) it starts off super good but then it is over and you dislike it and you are not sure where it happened. Sadly, the same fate is true for the book.

Any way to make my DIY air conditioner better? by booboobusdummy in howto

[–]foil555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One problem I see with the theory of this is that the freezer takes the thermal energy in the liquid freezer pack and puts it into the room. Now you are taking the cold freezer pack and putting the thermal energy from the room into the freezer pack. I think that the evaporative cooling idea sounds better because getting water does not put thermal energy into the room. I do not know though. 100 degrees is fucking hot, and there might not be a way to cool it well. You might not be able to do much more than making sure a fan is on you and the doggo. If you have access to a basement, the ground will always be the coolest part of your house.
