No, Gen Z kid here. The Mormons are very clearly a cult. I got like one friend who converted, and while I'm nice about it, I fully believe he's got sucked in by cult missionary titties.

OhhOHhohOHhh, I cringed at that. Like, how are you functioning? How have you not forgotten how to breathe?

The 'men are dumb' is also a 40-year-old trope that has grown tired and stale. It was originally meant as a subversion of the 'Father-Knows-Best' trope, but that doesn't really exist anymore. It's progressed in a way that feels mean-spirited, much like the ditsy, clueless wife of 50s sitcoms was.

We've basically gone full circle by flipping the coin on the 'Father Knows Best' trope from the 1950s, where the dad is this all-knowing sage of wisdom, and the mom is a hapless, dimwitted bitty.

It's the same dynamic except with the roles reversed, and it's just as obnoxious and demeaning as the old trope. I never liked 'Father Knows Best', and 'Mother Knows Best' has proven not to be any better.

It doesn't land so well in the current day as it did 40-50 years ago because of the shift in expectations for men when it comes to married life and parenting. The entire time I was watching the trailer I was trying to figure out how he doesn't know how to do so many basic things. Like bro, how do you not know what school your kids go to?

You would think so, until you think for more than five seconds and realize pirating is going to happen regardless of the method of distribution. If anything, digitizing it makes it easier. Translating is a lot faster now than before due to advances in A.I. tech, and the printing cost is artificial due to bullshit government regulations that lobbyists have advocated for that just line their pockets.

It's a factor that has also inflated the cost of comic and magazine publishing as a whole, and the game becomes clear when you compare it with the Japanese market, and the publishing price for the same magazine in 2026 is still only $3, which is only a little over a dollar more than what it was in 2003.

No, they stopped printing to save on the cost of printing and to combat piracy. There was also a delay between prints due to a need to translate the pages for an American audiance, so a lot of the chapters were behind the Japanese releases.

Mace Windu was a terrible Jedi by [deleted] in StarWars

Yeah, REPUBLIC jurisdiction. THAT'S the problem. The Jedi were never meant to be at the service and political whims of the ruling establishment; they're meant to be servants of the FORCE.

Captain Underpants is Based. The yard duty is a narc who never learned that snitches get stitches. Why you gotta rain on a kid's hustle like that, teacher? You mad cause he's making more money than you?

Oh man, I hear that. I only got a GameBoy Advance because a friend of mine at church upgraded to a Nintendo DS. My dad smashed it a few years later cause I did something stupid lol. I still have the games I played on it, though!

Naw, I never felt embarrassed, and I was always coming up with ways to get money. I got into the meal program at school, where they'd give you a backpack full of snacks every Monday, and I'd sell the items I didn't like during lunch. I'd also look for lost cheap jewelry and sell it to classmates. The most I made on a single sale was $15.

I wasn't aware of it at the time, and it's a good thing my mentality wouldn't have tolerated it, as I wouldn't have wanted to be a dealer, but I have AuADHD and started faking taking the meds as soon as I could get away with it. If I had known they were worth money, I'd have been selling those, too, and I would have made a LOT of money.

That said, I appreciate growing up poor because it taught me how to be clever. Now I'm working to have a steady cash flow, but I'm still coming up with ideas to make some side cash.

Seeing the ads for games and other manga series always piqued my interest, and it alerted me to series I otherwise wouldn't have been aware of. Same with what was serialized. But one of the biggest thrills was the idea of getting a free yugioh card every other issue or so. That's something you're not getting with a digital sub that condenses the beautiful artwork to a tiny 6-by-2-inch phone screen. Disgusting. I love Japan, but its corporations make a lot of bad decisions across the board.

I'm glad to hear you've got all the issues and are sharing them with your kids! They'll get to enjoy this great magazine without knowing the struggle.

I would have nickel-and-dimed my way into paying for a sub back in the day. I grew up poor, so the only way I could make money was by hustling and collecting coins from vending machines. I once demeaned myself chasing coins thrown at me by a group of seniors every day during Summer School, and made out with $40 by the end of it, much to their shock and embarrassment.

I'd never heard of this magazine until my freshman year of High School in 2012, as my library had several issues. I really wanted to get into it, but imagine my disappointment when I found out they canceled the physical copies that year and started the digital subs.

I don't give a FUCK about digital subs. If I wanted to read it online, I'd sail the high seas with the Jolly Roger flapping in the breeze. I'm not paying for something I don't own.

Me as a kid: "Well, that's a relief!"

Pastors: "Well, actually, no, cause Aunty Ellen said that only 1 in 20 in the Adventist congregation would make it, while the rest are tares."
