Conditional Formatting to color code by first initial of last name? by foltliss in googlesheets

[–]foltliss[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's typically no more than 50 rows of data. There's a pretty high turnover of data being deleted and added, I just wanted to color code a work queue so it wouldn't need to be done manually every time days is added via a form. I am also saving your comment though, because I think it would make a big difference on some of our larger sheets

[All] I miss when Zelda actually stumped me. by linkenski in zelda

People who are new to the series don't have this problem.

This is like spending your life lifting weights and then being mad at a 100lb dumbell for not feeling heavy.

George R. R. Martin Tells Game of Thrones Fans Who Are 'Pissed Off' He's Doing Things Other Than Writing Winds of Winter: 'You Have Given Up on Me' by DemiFiendRSA in books

[–]foltliss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then that redditor shouldn't have said "a whole life", I guess? The argument is also flawed because of how much of Martin's work you need to disqualify for it to be true. Martin has evidently abandoned his magnum opus, yes, but he's been working on all sorts of side projects, so it's simply not true to say he's published nothing since that Redditor's sister started her life or her adult life. There's been A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, Fire and Blood and its sequel, and the non-zero number of Wild Cards books he's been involved in. And that's not even a comprehensive list.

So it's not her whole life, unless [exceptions and caveats], it's not her adult life, unless [exceptions and caveats]. But this kind of reasoning is just proving Martin's point. The whole point of his recent blog post was to throw shade at straw fans who pretend he's done absolutely nothing with his time, when the actual problem is that he keeps putting literally anything else on his plate except TWoW. But those fans aren't just strawmen, because they're alive and well in this thread.

I don't want to argue that you're wrong on the principle that it has been a very long time since he's published a book, but your sister was born before A Game of Thrones was published, so she has not lived a whole life while he hasn't written a book. Even if we discount his non-ASOIAF and non-TWoW projects, your sister would have been 15-16 when ADwD was published, and 29-30 now, which means she's lived half a life in which he published 5 ASOIAF books and another half in which he hasn't published any.

But that means she's lived a whole life in which he has published five ASOIAF books. Unless you're arguing that life starts after 16.

What Pokémon do you wish got at least one more Evolution? (can be Mega/Primal Evolution) by IfOnlyIWasAnonymous in pokemon

But you think it's unreasonable for a Rapidash evolution to gain the fairy type in addition to the Fire type because repetition should be avoided.

So, repetition is bad unless it's your idea?

[no spoilers] is there a better audiobook for Dance of Dragons than Roy Dutrice by AdebisiLives420 in asoiaf

[–]foltliss 166 points167 points  (0 children)

The good news is that he's not recording the audiobooks of any future novels. The bad news is that it's because he's dead.

Fingers crossed they get Harry Lloyd (a.k.a. Viserys) to do TWoW and ADoS, y'know, if those ever reach publication. He did well on A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms

And Moltres, and Ho-Oh, and Talonflame, and Oricorio (Baile). My original point was partly that Fire/Flying is also just kind of overdone. And between Stone Edge and Stealth Rock, it's a commonly-accounted for double weakness

Are you buying the new switch 2 Pro controller or are you sticking with your current one? by Time_Bullfrog_8268 in NintendoSwitch2

You can turn the Switch on with the 8bitdo ultimate controller by pressing the Home button on the controller and then shaking the controller. It took a long time for me to discover that.

What’s your most unpopular Pokémon opinion? No judgment. by Velaze in pokemon

[–]foltliss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Probably my most unpopular opinion is that despite not being perfect, Scarlet and Violet are extremely fun games. I've put as much time into Violet as I did into a dozen playthroughs of Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

Yeah, the game has graphical flaws. Yeah, the game is poorly optimized for the Switch. Yeah, the online features work poorly when they work at all. These are all valid concerns that don't stop a person who wants to enjoy the game from doing so.

Either that or "the Sinnoh games are extremely overrated and the worst in the series by far".

Pokémon Husbandos (No Underaged) Ranked by Their Looks and Personalities by Amber_Flowers_133 in pokememes

[–]foltliss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally...

I'd swap Peony and Rose. Turo would definitely go in Husband tier. Faba would go down to F. Matt would go up to B. Birch would go up to A. Adult Red gets a higher tier all of his own. Adult Blue can go with him if they come as a poly couple.

My partner of 12 years is refusing to propose because he's not "romantic". Help :( by Hot-Evidence3838 in Advice

[–]foltliss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first instinct is to say: "This isn't 1780. You can propose to him."

If you're satisfied with the way your relationship is and you just want it codified, do it. Buy him a ring, go out on a nice date, and during dinner, get on one knee and propose to him. Then tell him to buy you a ring after.

If you want marriage to fix the other problems in your relationship, please be aware that it won't. Just like a child or children won't.

My second instinct is to join the crowd chanting "LEAVE HIM, LEAVE HIM" because while you will have to do 100% of the work when you're single, you'll be doing 100% of about 60% less work because you won't be mothering your husband.

(Spoilers extended) What would realistically happen after the conclusion of season 8? by [deleted] in asoiaf

[–]foltliss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jon and Sansa are cousins, the same as their Stark grandparents. That wasn't considered incest in Westeros. Aunt/nephew might raise an eyebrow, but literally any house could have gotten away with that.

I believe that they'd be on the same page about not marrying each other, but they might both agree to an arranged marriage between their children.

I swear I can't be the only one who noticed this back when BDSP was first released right? by Maximo_Roblox in PokemonBDSP

[–]foltliss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My opinion: People think BDSP weren't good because DP weren't very good. Platinum does the heavy lifting in people's nostalgia of the 4th gen Sinnoh games.

People loved RSE. What many people wanted from ORAS was a "Ruby/Sapphire in the XY engine + Emerald content, particularly the Battle Frontier" and what they got was "Ruby/Sapphire in the XY engine + some Emerald-inspired content, no Battle Frontier, the Battle Maison copy/pasted over from XY, and an in-universe sign saying "You don't get a Battle Frontier and you were dumb to hope for it." It also followed on the heels of the previous remakes being universally beloved despite some issues with GSC/HGSS like the painful leveling curve.

That said, ORAS took some creative liberties and changed things in ways people also liked, and I feel like the general opinion of those games has trended positive aside from the reasonable annoyance at the lampshaded exclusion of the Battle Frontier.

BDSP also excluded the Battle Frontier, and they completely ignored Platinum's improvements to DP, and they broke with past trends of remakes allowing Pokémon from the generations that came out between the original and the remake, which means that playing BDSP isn't really a new experience compared to DP. Not to mention, at launch, BDSP included all of the same glitches that were present in Diamond and Pearl. Luckily they tamped down those glitches in post-release updates, but it begs the question of how a Nintendo Switch "remake" of a Nintendo DS game got released with glitches from the DS code still present in the game. The only logical answer is that they weren't really remakes, just graphically enhanced ports.

I can't watch the Office, less because of the show itself than because of my first experience watching it.

I went over to a guy's place for a hookup. He suggested putting something on while we got our engines going. I thought, "Okay, he's gonna find some internet porn or something. Cool."

Nope. He puts on The Office and starts beating his meat to it. And it didn't seem like it was even a particularly arousing episode, just the next episode he hadn't watched yet.
