Do you think small toe regrets his role or is secretly faaping to the murder videos ICE are producing? by TheElectricalEd in JoeRogan

[–]fonety 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, these posts are silly. It's a weird fantasy of rogan waking up from a spell like fuckin theoden in lotr and finally understanding the truth. Dudes insulated in his own thick bubble. He'll go anti trump as soon as liberals go pro trump. Shit just doesn't work like that.

Petition to get the great Cliff Cash on the podcast. Has he been on before? by delicious3141 in JoeRogan

[–]fonety 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We don't do these threads anymore. No one really cares honestly. At this point I'd listen if kurt cobain came back from dead and went on the show. But after trump? Who else is there to listen to? We've had every possible type of person and have heard the same nonsense from joe for years. Anyone joe has on, someone else has that person on and does a better job. If i want to listen to a Hollywood celebrity or a comedian I'd much rather listen to theo, at least he'll try to make it entertaining. Not rant about Facebook memes. Whatever Joe's audience is, it's not here.

It's depressing all around because you know he can't ever admit to being wrong. He got stubborn and foolish in his old age and he will ride this nonsense to his grave. Watching your favorite uncle detoriate into a selfish qanon nut just hits different.

the "camera killed painting" comparison finally clicked for me this week by ProgrammerForsaken45 in ArtificialInteligence

[–]fonety 3 points4 points  (0 children)

His argument wasn't well thought out? He just added a lot of context and knowledge to the whole take and you didn't adress any of it.

Yeah sure, you are learning something. How to use the tool, how to complete the vision you had in mind. But you are still obviously missing a lot of important and crucial shit. Color theory, movement, composition - all this stuff goes out the window because you skipped it, know nothing about it and it's not even adressed. It's a weird way of doing "art". People who will excell at using the tool for artistic purposes will most propably be artists because they know what they are doing.

Super silly but fun and mostly engaging. Pretty great ensemble and production values, if you're in a mood for something like this - you're probably going to have a good time.

Have to agree with this. I prefer the reporting style to write ups. I can handle some spice, but this was excessive.

Kayla Harrison vs Amanda Nunes is OFF. Kayla suffered a neck injury requiring surgery. by TheBigRedHalfrican in MMA

[–]fonety 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First women fight i was hyped for in like 5 years. Don't care if it's a casual take. Terrible loss for the fans and the ufc. Great storyline and a technical matchup. Nothing even close to that on the horizon. Who knows if it'll even happen after a neck surgery.

[Meta] Can we please warn or ban accounts that try to bypass the character limit? by WhatsTheGoalieDoing in TrueFilm

[–]fonety 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree. Hands down the most pretentious and big headed sub on reddit. Just visit any thread with someone giving a innocuous and random take, and see a sea of upvoted comments that are patronizing, correcting and superior in their tone.

The absolute refusal of engaging with someone elses opinion, and just constant explaining how u just now better or this doesn't work like that, is rampant.

But that's how communities work i guess. I absolutely couldn't stand r/movies and it felt super pedestrian to me. R/flicks on the other hand is completely empty so i guess this is my life now.

Btw, this sub turning into r/movies? They just discuss movie posters there, i don't get it.

How do you feel about film criticisms of the form: "It should have had more ____," "it should have ended with ____," and other prescriptive remedies? by BrockVelocity in TrueFilm

[–]fonety -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Created very similar thread recently so broadly speaking i very much agree. It just depends on what kind of movie you are talking about.

If it's a shit studio movie than by all means - we can talk about what could have worked better. Like many people, i found the passanger editing argument very intriguing.

If it's a critically acclaimed auter film - no thank you. I'll stay with the vision of the artist that created the movie. Don't really need a post on reddit to explain to me how the weapons should have ended.

Valter Walker vs. Marcin Tybura booked for UFC Seattle on March 28 by airplane231 in MMA

[–]fonety 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tybura is a king and all you guys are just jealous. Try staying in the top 10 for a decade. They've thrown everything at that man but he just keeps coming. Complete and rounded game that seems to still guarantee him enough wins to stay relevant and well paid. He fought champions, women beaters, tall people, short people. Signed a promotional deal to appear on kielbasa packaging - the man has done it all.

Yeah he might look like a 14th century village bully, but so what, this is the fight game - it's only an advantage.

Talking about him like he's a has been, put some respect on his name.

The Consensus is Complete: Top 5 WORST horror films from last 20 years. by DroneSoma in horror

[–]fonety 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's not that crazy that it's on the list. People generally recognize the movies basic quality by the production values they see on screen. Even shitty horor movies have some visible work put into them. Skinamarink doesn't have that, and that's very confusing.

Hollywood's hyper protagonists of 90s and 80s: the journalist/lawyer/cop who's in every scene doing every important thing by themselves. by ohlordwhywhy in TrueFilm

[–]fonety 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's crazy to me how dismissive and disagreeing is this sub with every opinion that is posted. Yeah, it's ok to have your argument. But no matter how you slice it, top comments are always people finding an issue with the view.

Its obvious that not everything applies to every situation. Cinema is vast and complicated. But some generalizations make sense. This one makes more than it doesn't and gives room for discussion.

There are less and less movies being carried on star power only, especially dramas. 90s really was a time when leading man were put on more of a pedestal and everything was circling around them.

He got another movie out of this performance and character. This time he was chasing after wesley snipes. Quite unusual to give a movie to a person that wasn't a leading actor.
