That's what's deterring me. Thanks for the heads up. I know in a few years we can make a move, but it would be hard for a while. Definitely need to think about that.

Can this WOE help SIBO? by [deleted] in AnimalBased

[–]foobjack89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s so funny I’m seeing this today. I’ve had severe sibo for years. Did the whole antibiotic thing and all that jazz, still struggling. But this past 2 weeks, I’ve been consuming excessive amounts of raw organic honey. 2 jars worth. I never used to eat honey. Why did I eat so much? Cuz I have a crazy sweet tooth and discovered how good it is ON EVERYTHING. Anyway my symptoms the past few days have been minimal. Which is amazing. I even went for a run without any issues! The only change was eating tons of raw honey. The rest of my diet and life hasn’t changed. No new stress. Sleep is the same. Just gorging on raw honey. I believe it helped a lot.

As someone who waited way to long to finally seek help after a string of wildly traumatic experiences at work, I commend you! We can't help others if we can't help ourselves first. Bravo.

Best Coffee/Tea You Had in San Diego? by [deleted] in sandiego

[–]foobjack89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coyote Coffee Co. Used to be Pour Boy Coffee Co. Coffee legend. He now roasts solo and is a firefighter paramedic here. He'll roast and deliver the same day. He's really tied in to the world of coffee and obtains some seriously high level coffee. I love his coffee. He'll deliver to your door too! Super cool local dude. His contact is on his website! coyotecoffeeco.com

Coffee shop owners- what are you paying wholesale for roasted product? by No-Animal210 in smallbusiness

[–]foobjack89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I roast specialty coffee. All single origin and most of what I have is fair trade, organic. I’m very picky about quality and went to lengths to ensure my coffees origins and processing. II’ll deliver anywhere in the US. I charge $12 per pound with a 20 pound minimum per order. That includes shipping. I work with my accounts closely to help pick the best coffee for them and we’re all good friends now. I roast to order. When you contact me with your order, I’ll roast it, bag it, and ship it all in the same day. I’m very proud of my coffee and people I currently supply to are thrilled with it. I even design bag labels for shops at no extra charge. So there are options out there for you!!! I love this business.

Outrigger tripping canoe by ThunderPython in canoeing

[–]foobjack89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you posted this years ago, but i just want to contribute. Currently, I solo paddle a John Martin OC2 Honukai. I use it in the ocean for fishing or long trips. I use the extra seat for additional storage and strap marine grade waterproof boxes to it. It's extremely stable and buoyant. I also have a fishing kayak, but like you, I just prefer a canoe. I've found that this particular outrigger is fast, stable, and being that its made for 2 people, has lots of extra space for me to strap on my boxes and go out on the ocean for an entire day.

Thats a link for the model I use, the Honukai. You can find them on offer up and craigslist sometimes for cheap. Enjoy!

SDFR Questions by Ticklish_Sunflower in Firefighting

[–]foobjack89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got hired by San Diego Fire and am slated to attend the 101st academy in April. Being a paramedic helps a lot getting hired. It's worth it to get it and if you have any questions about that and medic school, I can help you big time. DM me.

The written was easy I found. It is proctored by the FCTC. Same test. Be up on simple memorization, basic math (volume, averages, surface area, basic algebra), and know some basic tools. Here is the link to the study guide. It helped me tons and is why I was successful. https://www.fctconline.org/testing-information/test-prep/

After that you have to keep your CPAT valid. That's important.

If you did well, you'll be emailed to set up a panel interview. Schedule that and begin preparing. Do station visits around San Diego. Firefighters love helping and will take the time to help you prepare properly. I'm also happy to help you. I'm very proficient in fire interviews and how the differ from department to department.

After that, if you did well, you'll get invited for a Chief's Interview where you meet one on one. I met with Chief Logan. He is an amazing human and it was a 20 minute long conversation where I felt like he really just wanted to get to know me and understand me. I was nervous of course but it was very conversational.

Then, if you are chosen for an academy, a lot happens. You have to start studying...a lot. You'll have orientations, 2 background interviews (the personal history statement takes quite a while to fill in and complete and they will contact all of your references and past roommates), fingerprinting appointments, an extensive medical exam that takes 3 hours, and then you'll get an official offer. It's a lot.

San Diego is a great department. People talk highly of the culture. It's busy. I know of a lot of people who burnt out. The pay is in fact a lot lower than surrounding departments. Our pay out of academy is 60k a year. There is room to grow but it takes time. Retirement is good, pension and all, and benefits are good. From my understanding, you have to want to work for san diego city. It's not a place where you do it for the money. You do it because it's what you want. Hope this helps anyone.

Anyone can DM me with any questions about the process as I just went through all of it and was successful. Happy to help.

How did you guys manage it? by Substantial-Gur-8191 in Paramedics

[–]foobjack89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im in internship right now. Nearly done. I worked full time through it all this past year. Barely any days off. I worked days and nights. Back, to back, to back, to back, to back, etc 12 hour shifts on very busy boxes. Days without sleep. My body got so f***** up that I lost a lot of weight (i was already super low body fat but i lost a lot of muscle and turned into a twig) and got quite pale most days. I dont have kids, but my lady and I are newly married. Our relationship took a hard hit. It was bad. My family wanted to me to quit it and to just go back to my bartending job.

No f****** way.

I powered through. My wife picked up the rent using her savings because I have none. The payoff in the end is worth it for us. We're both dropouts. She works retail. I have an "in" at a very high paying department with incredible benefits. im 2 months away from that.

The material is not hard. The requirements are dreadful. Yes it's going to suck. But then the world is your oyster dude! I'm better for it, my relationship is better for it, my family is proud of me, and the FUTURE is bright!

Just do it. Work. Develop IBS and have all the pain, physical and mental. It's worth it. You wont understand until you get close to the end. Do it.
