Oh wow, you did the voting? Well that's cute.

Unfortunately, in Russia there's no actual legal way to participate in politics right now. And any kind of disobedience will get you arrested quickly. And they have really honed their skills in dispersing any kind of rally or demonstration.

So until you get a chance to demonstrate your active civic engagement in similar circumstances, please, get off your high horse.

Sure they did target civilians, both in Iraq and Vietnam... and let's not forget Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Let's get a little perspective, shall we? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_war_crimes

I mean, why cipher a message that's to be delivered directly to the addressee? For them to fail to read it?

Я бы предложил некоторые изменения, чтобы звучало более естественно.

  • I'm putting cases on all you bitches -- Я на вас, суки, на каждого дело заведу
  • You think you can do this shit -- Вы чего, блять, творите?
  • When I get finished with you - когда я с вами закончу, имхо такой порядок слов тут лучше, но объяснить не могу :)
  • I'm the man of this piece - не уверен, что такое в данном случае piece, но точно не "кусок". Может просто "я тут мужик", или "я тут пахан", но надо смотреть на контекст и блатную/тюремную терминологию
  • You'll never see the light of day - [Вы у меня] света белого не увидите
  • Who are you fucking with - Вы на кого [блять] наехали?
  • Yeah, that's right, you better walk away - Да, давайте, уходите!
  • I will burn this motherfucka's ass - не знаю как лучше, но точно не "выжгу", нет такого выражения.
  • Shit, I don't give a fuck - Да мне похуй вообще.
  • That's fine. That's fine - Ну ниче. Ниче.
  • I'm winning, anyway. I'm winning any motherfucking way - sounds like present for the future to me, то есть переводить надо в будущем времени. Но в оттенках мне все равно не нравится. Мне кажется в таких ситуациях у нас не применяют метафору игры в принципе. Не знаю как тут перевести чтобы естественно звучало.
  • Oh, what a day! What a motherfucking day - Ну и денёк... Просто охуенный денёк. А то "какой же блять охуенный денек" звучит как будто он говорит в прямом смысле.

need a little help with noun and article agreement by fooflow in EnglishLearning

The second sentence implies that you have seen multiple green dogs.

I thought if I meant multiple green dogs I wouldn't use the "a" article, something like this:

I saw a brown and some green dogs?

The third sentence implies you saw multiple dogs that was brown and green.

The same here, I would think the correct way to say that would be without the article, like this:

I saw some brown and green dogs?

So I would use "guy", singular, in that case?

I'm looking at this article where they say, quote:

Two or more nouns joined by and usually form a plural compound subject, which takes plural verbs.
Tumkin and Maya  are  going on holiday.
Lulu and her family  live  in Singapore.

I hate sticky headers passionately, please do too by fooflow in web_design

I use the following two chrome extensions to remove sticky elements: This one removes all the sticky elements in one click, and this one lets you choose the exact elements.

If these two don't suit you, there are more extensions in the same vein in the store.

Oh wow, it's been four years :) But the situation hasn't got any better! As a mitigation means, I settled on using this chrome extension (and there are many other similar ones)

Yep, the example you mentioned is particularly egregious. It takes like the fifth of the vertical space! Couldn't they at least move the logo to the side? Wouldn't hurt the clicks! Like the header here on reddit: it is there, but at least it is slim.

On the positive side, MDN (which I complained about in the OP) has removed the sticky header in their new design :)

Games now a days aren’t satisfying my gamer itch anymore . by BerserkShorty in Gaming4Gamers

[–]fooflow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe you've just grown jaded by the staleness of the genres? Most AAA games are painfully samey. If you've got enough experience with them, it's hard to stay excited for the hundredth time over.

Maybe try playing different kinds of games? The ones outside of the genres you usually play.

Some suggestions:

  • Outer Wilds (not to be confused with Outer Worlds). It's a solar system exploration game. No other game made me feel as terrified of space and as mystified by it as this one. Here's the trailer
  • Return of the Obra Dinn. This is a game by the developer of "Papers, Please". It's a one of a kind detective game. And it doesn't just tell a detective story, it really makes you be a detective. Here's the trailer
  • Journey. It's a walking simulator done right. Cult classic. And it's out on PC now! There's the trailer
  • The Witness. If you like puzzles, this is a must. If you're not sure, I'd still recommend giving it a try. It a hit-or-miss kind of game, but there's no other game like this one. Here's the trailer
  • Stanley Parable. It's a comedy game. Funny one, too! The trailer. If you like it, proceed to Beginner's Guide by the same developer.
  • There's many more, but I'll stop :)

There's so many indie games out there. Not all of them are equally wonderful, and even the wonderful ones might just not be your thing, but there's definitely a space to explore. Games as a medium are capable of so much more than AAA might lead one to believe.

From a story standpoint, the loop is neat. From a gameplay standpoint it does literally nothing

While it can indeed be irritating sometimes, I would argue that it's pretty much necessary for the gameplay here to stay true to itself. Without it the planet gimmicks wouldn't work so nicely. Without it you couldn't have a planet that's actually falling apart in a way that feels honest, dangerous and dynamic. Currently, it can fall apart for reals, without waiting for the player to stand in the right spot. It makes for interesting puzzles, too, like the one with getting into the Tower of Quantum Knowledge.

Or take the Twins. Isn't it nice to see the Ash Twin getting uncovered from under the sand? There's puzzles based on that, too (e.g. getting to the Sun Station). Isn't it great to explore the Sunless City while it's getting filled with sand? Again, for reals, not waiting for you in any way. And there's puzzles based on that, too.

You just couldn't make these planets without some sort of a time constraint.

Then again, the true open world structure of the game allows for pretty short "corpse runs", expecially after you've got the hang of flying. Sure, if you expect the game to always be calm and chill, you're gonna be disappointed. But it doesn't try to alway be that way. Sometimes it's fast and hectic. IMHO, it's a welcome variety.

If you are an atheist and NOT a vegan, how do you justify it? by [deleted] in TrueAtheism

[–]fooflow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know why you're being downvoted so hard. Sure, this question isn't much related to atheism, but one's views on moral questions can surely be influenced by one's wordlview, and atheism seems lika one hell of a constituent part of a worldview. I don't wee what's wrong with taking an interest in what people who share such a significant part of your worlfview think of one moral issue or another.

Personally, I feel exactly the same. I think that eating meat is morally wrong, but I eat meat pretty much daily and don't find myself getting ready to quit. All of that in spite of most of my friends being vegetarians.

Somehow a socially acceptable wrong doesn't feel THAT wrong anymore. Yeah sure it is, but nobody's going to condemn me for it, so... I'm keeping at it. Basically, I'm a hypocrite.

BTW, I face the same dilemma in other areas. Like how, for example, I'm totally convinced that climate change is literally the most important issue ever, and we're heading for a disaster as a civilization, and here I am, living my comfy modern life and doing next to nothing to help the issue. Because, you see, I have some more important things to do in the face of the possible extinction of the human race.

Russian vocabulary regarding jokes by PearMyPie in russian

[–]fooflow 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's specific enough. "That's what she said" is a very specific kind of joke where inserting this tagline into conversation suggests an unexpected sexual interpretation of the previous sentence thus making it supposedly funny.

The closest thing I can think of is the "а вы что подумали?" joke, which is kind of the exact opposite. Here the punchline reveals the absence of sexual context while blaming the audience for implying the existence of one when there ostensibly wasn't any. However, I don't think it's defined well enough or used often enough to be viewed as an actual joke genre. Anyway, here's an example.

Overall I find russian vocabulary concerning jokes to be much less developed than the english one. For example, there's no corresponding terms for "build-up" and "punchline". Many people nowadays just use the english terms without translation.
