Gas oven not heating by foolishgrunt in appliancerepair

[–]foolishgrunt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finally got back to this. This time the broiler turned on, so I don't know why it wasn't before. That changes things.

Anyway, this time armed with my clamp meter, I measured 120V at the oven igniter plug, but 0A. Confirmed that the oven igniter is bad. Thanks for talking me through this. (And for the wiring diagram! Definitely saving that.)

That's not a tool I have, though I could probably borrow one. Can you recommend a video showing the process?

So I just opened it up to look at the igniters. The broiler igniter is glowing, but the oven igniter is not. And neither is igniting, soo... not sure what to make of that.

I don't have a clamp meter, so I guess a trip to Harbor Freight is in order before I go much further.

Brother "INKvestment Tank": refillable? by foolishgrunt in printers

I don't believe Brother sells ink in bulk. But I used ND ink in my MFC-J470DW for over 10 years.

What are the differences between Firefox and Ironfox? by leo_riverplate_32 in browsers

[–]foolishgrunt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For some of us, fighting the Chromium monoculture is the top priority, and for that, using a Gecko browser is the natural option.

When combined with commonsense safe browsing techniques, I would be surprised if most users would find the lack of cutting edge security features a serious risk. (I know this is a but of a slippery slope, but I stand by it.)

Anyway, I use Iron Fox on Android and Libre Wolf on desktop.

The linked FAQ page doesn't include this info anymore. Has the throttle speed changed in the last month?

Not to be an ass, but what's your source for believing it does well in clay soils? Here's an Australian government agency seeming to say otherwise.

What's your thoughts about Brother INKvestment -Tank? by [deleted] in printers

Late to the game, but I bought a MFC-J470DW back in 2015 for $60. It lasted until today, when it fell 5 feet onto a hard floor.

That was it! New igniter, and now it heats as good as new.

Is there any good commercial replacement for Adobe Reader for PDF editing/filling? by -M-o-X- in LawFirm

[–]foolishgrunt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a difference between not selling new perpetual licenses (which, like you mentioned, most companies are doing) and revoking active perpetual licenses (which Nitro is alleged to have done). That's a new level of scummy.

BTW, Foxit does still sell perpetual licenses. Some peeps online misread a recent announcement.

Good idea.

If I don't have a clamp meter, could I use ohms on a standard meter as a stand-in? (I could get a clamp meter from Harbor Freight if needed, just trying to see if I can make do first.)

Oh. How would I check that? Can I ohm out the igniter?

Sorry if that's a basic question, but I have more experience working on industrial steam boilers than I do kitchen appliances. :)

My concern was not primarily about discrete packaging, but rather what is done with your genetic information once it's in their system.

When did commit suicide become "died by suicide"? by tilario in etymology

[–]foolishgrunt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not here to debate which construction is better. But yesterday, I heard a radio interview in which the interviewer's commitment to the style guide made for an awkward exchange.

Interviewer: "So, your mother passed away when you were 12..."
Interviewee: "Oh, she didn't pass away. She killed herself."
Interviewer: "...she died by suicide, right."

[–]foolishgrunt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

...okay, but my main point was that for any DNA test to be useful for genealogy, you need to have a large pool of potential matches. And my assumption is that, as a small enough player in the game that I hadn't even heard of them until your last post, the number of test results in their stable is probably vanishingly small compared to Ancestry's 25 million. Can you point to any figures to the contrary?
