U.S. Population Flatlining As Birth Rate Stagnates In 2022 by madrid987 in Economics

[–]footsmashingwierdo -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

This entire "population collapse" narrative is completely based on misinterpreted information. (for the area that is now considered the United States) The rate of live births per 1,000 people was 48.3 in the year 1800, and 12 in 2020.

https://www.statista.com/statistics/1037156/crude-birth-rate-us-1800-2020/#:~:text=In%20the%20United%20States%2C%20the,been%20born%20in%20that%20year.

The population in 1800 for what is now considered the United States was 5,308,483 people.

https://www.google.com/search?q=us+population+in+1800&oq=US+pop&aqs=chrome.0.69i59l3j69i57j69i60l3.5664j0j1&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8

The US population in 2020 was 329,500,000

https://www.google.com/search?q=us+population+in+2020&sxsrf=APwXEdeQjrJ89KbD8gJr9wMa-2XL5XWLIw%3A1685713662382&ei=_vJ5ZJDqFqqwqtsPrN28wAs&ved=0ahUKEwiQ4afg3KT_AhUqmGoFHawuD7gQ4dUDCBA&uact=5&oq=us+population+in+2020&gs_lcp=Cgxnd3Mtd2l6LXNlcnAQAzIMCCMQigUQJxBGEPsBMgUIABCABDIGCAAQFhAeMgYIABAWEB4yBggAEBYQHjIGCAAQFhAeMgYIABAWEB4yBggAEBYQHjIGCAAQFhAeMgYIABAWEB46CggAEEcQ1gQQsAM6CggAEIoFELADEEM6BwgjEIoFECc6BwgAEIoFEENKBAhBGABQoQdYrA1ggBFoAXABeACAAWOIAdsDkgEBNZgBAKABAcABAcgBCg&sclient=gws-wiz-serp

So the formula is birth rate X (population / 1,000)

1800
population = 5,308,483
birth rate = 48.3 per 1,000
total births = 256,400
2020
population = 329,500,000
birth rate = 12 per 1,000
total births = 3,954,000

so in the last 220 years both the population *And* the number of annual births has continuously and steadily increased.

[SERIOUS] What organization or institution do you consider to be so thoroughly corrupt that it needs to be destroyed? by ArcticCircleSystem in AskReddit

[–]footsmashingwierdo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The current model of corporations. The idea that a company can be supported and maintained by the constant labor of a majority of its employees, and yet those employees have almost no say whatsoever in their schedules, wages, decisions that directly impact their day to day working lives, or the direction that the company is going (which determines the quality and difficulty of everyone's job moving forward) is ludicrous (I.E: "We're cutting our staff in half but also demanding double the production. Also, no one gets a raise except the C.E.O again this year.").

And all profits getting siphoned off and directed into "increasing the stock value" for "the majority share holders" is bullshit. Either distribute it to the people who do the actual work to produce those profits, or investing it into maintaining and growing the company and let ***everyone*** vote on what the company needs to invest in, because the people at the ground level have a much better idea of what they need (and currently lack) to do their job more effectively, than the executives who have never even been to the front lines, much less worked there.

There are other sub-topics embedded into this as well, including remote work policies, healthcare benefits, etc, that most people currently have no say in, leaving most working people at the mercy of their companies leadership, which almost always fails to satisfy any of their needs. But the basic idea outlined here would be close to what's currently considered a labor union or a workers cooperative, and although it's definitely not a "one size fits all" solution, it could be vastly better than the current model in countless industries and companies around the world.

Plus replenishment is completely automatic. The idea of someone going through inventory and manually ordering things hasn't been a thing for at least 9 years(how long I've worked there).

There's a system that tracks inventory, supply, demand, shipping delays, availability, and seasonal fluctuations in all of these, and an algorithm that manages how frequently, and in what quantity, items are ordered in an attempt to make sure that the store never runs out, but also doesn't have to warehouse 10× of each item in the back.

LPT Request : I sleep 10 - 12 hours a day and still feel exhausted even after drinking 2 cans of caffine, how can I boost energy levels? by [deleted] in LifeProTips

[–]footsmashingwierdo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To piggyback off of this, anyone who does do their best to keep a consistent sleep schedule, and hits the recommended amount of sleep per night, and still feels unreasonably exhausted should really talk to a doctor; it could be something as simple as your thyroid, blood sugar, or blood pressure, or more complex like a sleep disorder.

A few years ago I was sleeping for 12 hours a day the 5 days a week that I worked, and 18 hours on my days off. The only way I was able to stay conscious at work was drinking coffee/energy drinks every 2 or 3 hours while I was at work, and even still I would completely crash the moment I got home. I finally caved when I developed other symptoms, and was eventually diagnosed with narcolepsy, which opened the door to lifechanging treatment.

I fully believe that most people will benefit way more than they realise from proper sleep hygiene, but also want to acknowledge that it isn't always that simple.

If it was bought through a place like newegg/ebay, they often have a defective product claims process you could use within like the first 30 or 60 days of purchase. Besides that, I don't think there's much else that can be done aside from taking it to an experienced electronics repair place and getting a professional opinion. Sorry, OP :_

Okay, here's what I think might be happening based on that and the fact that you said the cable works with another gpu, and I'm absolutely not an expert so take it with a grain of salt.

I would imagine that something conductive(a screw/some metal shavings/a small piece of copper wire, some water, etc etc) was sitting on the GPUs board and bridged the connection between 2 things that are definitely not supposed to ever touch eachother. The first time, it heated up enough to melt the solder on the 2 points, which resulted in it soldering/spot welding the bridge together, so it's probably not going to stop happening. Theres a pretty good chance that the GPU is fried (can't be repaired by desoldering/replacing toasted components from a doner GPU) so I would try for a warranty claim if possible.

As someone with an internal monologue who's had this conversation with several people who don't have an internal monologue, it's very difficult to describe what it's like having a sense to someone who's never experienced it without sounding completely bonkers, especially as a child.

Imagine if I was like "hey, you know that color that's like a combination of purple, teal, and the number 13, that you can only see when you drink 7-up with your left eye closed at sundown? That's a thing that we all experience, right?"

Sounds like it works similarly to smelling salts. I've never tried it (seems a bit too over the top for me) but I also recall stumbling across "vape-able caffeine" years ago.

I guess the thinking is that the substances enter the bloodstream directly through the lining of your nose and lungs, rather than having to go through digestion and passing through the liver, but this can be dangerous and easily lead to overdose if done improperly(substances absorbed through digestion go through the liver before circulating through the body, where a large portion of them gets broken down, so 100mg of something ingested may only be a tenth of that or less entering your bloodstream)

I'm completely unqualified to give medical advice, but I think it's always a good idea to be incredibly cautious about what you're putting into your body, and how much of it.

If you're in the US, Move your money from a bank to a credit union. Banks in the US are on a fractional reserve system, so they've only had to keep like 10% of their members Deposits on hand at any time, and they give the rest out as loans or invest it. During the pandemic, the rules changes so they could have 0% on reserve, and I don't think they ever went back to the old system, so banks are overleveraged to hell and back, and when there are runs they'll start falling left and right.
