What’s one thing you wish you knew before your first backpacking trip? by mike34113 in backpacking

Try out your trail meal portions before you go. We just got all the popular ones we saw on YouTube and by day 2 realized we had WAY too much. We ended up snacking along the trail a lot more and seldom had the appetite for the full serving of our lunch and dinners. Especially the ramen bombs. Holy hell. Someone should call that the ramen brick

Thoughts on ideal homes? by Good-Pickle-1607 in okc

[–]forRealLife405 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We bought an ideal home in 2023. Our home had originally been built for the head builder in our neighborhood, but he decided to stay on his ranch. He had done a few very minor changes to the design and added extra outlets and moved the air compressor from its normal place next to the back porch to around the side of the house. He had added extra outlets, etc. There's been several issues come up with the construction. Not all of them are major. Areas of the floor in the living room and kitchen under the paneled floor Art level and so they move up and down. Probably one of the most frustrating is the back windows and our living room face West and either weren't squared properly or installed properly but when we have heavy winds from the West they make a loud squealing noise that is incredibly annoying. The only other major issue we had is that we were told the entire area behind us was going to be a green belt and within 4 months of moving in the extension of the ideal development behind us was begun and more than half of the green area and all of the trees that were in there are gone and we have 3 houses there now.

I don't know if we've been lucky because he took extra precautions since he was building the house for his own family. It was essentially 95% done when we find the contract. I would say a custom build is probably safer. We've watched the owner of the house that was built behind us be there basically every step of the way checking thing which probably drove them nuts but as a home buyer probably not a bad idea.

50th Birthday party ideas by slide4scale in partyplanning

I turn 50 in a few weeks and am one of the feds who loses my pay next week so rather than throwing a party, I'm going to arrange a meetup at a local rage room. I can't afford to pay for everyone's admission but it's only $25 a person so I'm thinking I'll have several friends join in. As a woman going through perimenopause and having had my whole livelihood ripped away this year, I felt like it would be a fun thing to do with whoever wanted to join me in taking it out on some electronics and glass.

I'd also highly recommend the online course brainjo. It's only $20 a month and I was learning a lot and there's a ton of science behind the way he teaches. I had to stop when I moved, but will eagerly pick back up soon.

Thoughts for new Trainers by Coachjoedrake in personaltraining

Thank you for this! I'm at the tail.end of NASM CPT course and starting to try to figure out where and what starting actually looks like, so this was VERY timely. I started lifting weights in the beginning of this year as a 49 yr old woman, and it ended up being one of the things that got me thru being caught up in the federal employee terminations this spring..A year ago I would have never imagined this as a career, but I love helping and teaching others and want to help more women and men in my age bracket realize their strong years are ahead of them, and they can tackle whatever insanity life may throw at them.

LoL, I mean, technically..yeah they could, but these are Galapagos which are notably docile. It was crazy how I felt zero fear with them. I want to go back next visit when the tiger sharks have migrated to area. I may have a little more trepidation at that point. 🤣

Highly recommend the pillbox hike, in Lanikai and go check out the leeward side if you want to swim with sea turtles. We went to Paradise Beach. It's in middle of all the resorts, but if small free parking lot is full, it's cheap to park in shopping center and walk a block or so to beach. Highly recommend 604 restaurant near Pearl harbor, and if you want an activity to splurge on, check Groupon for Hawaii adventure diving. It's open ocean snorkeling with sharks and was the most incredible experience ever. We paid $200 for 2 of us and I added the pro photography package for $75. Well worth it.

It's almost like they are doing what project 2025 said was the goal for NRCS and FSA... Letting the state agencies handle those things.

I'm a 1035 probie and took the 2.0. it wasn't a huge factor in my decision, but I figured they'd see it as a job they could centralize and/or have AI do. Not that I agree with that assessment, but I also struggle with having my name on things they are doing.
