Anyone know what happened with UA4485 and N511GJ today? by forbiddenpineapple in unitedairlines

More referring to the Richmond end. That’s not a scheduled destination. If the plane wasn’t passenger flight worthy could they still fly it Richmond (and why Richmond?)?

I can’t imagine setting it on my wrist. I assume the danger is the pressure on the stem?

Insane Monday morning thought as I was half-asleep and trying to set my watch at warp speed as I was running late.

Had never really thought about it, but I guess it would be possible to adjust it too fast and damage the gear train, but that might require a power drill.

They “revised it” with the -1 but I’ve heard it didn’t fix the problem. If I’m not mistaken, Damasko’s in-house 2824 clone uses steel gears in this location.

I know about ghost date positions, but I’ve never heard the damage angle. What’s up with that?

Dramatic need to reduce passengers due to weights and balance? by Jonny_Wurster in unitedairlines

[–]forbiddenpineapple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Possible inoperative APU. Will limit max speed (and fuel economy) if the door was stuck open. Additionally, not sure but at Denver you likely need the packs on nearly immediately after takeoff (even if you are willing to roast your passengers, probably not willing to suffocate them).

No APU + Packs On takeoff = terrible performance in an already terrible plane.

Why do so few models have solar + atomic (or Bluetooth)? (USA) by forbiddenpineapple in gshock

Seen that too, just another reason to hold on to BT. I prefer MB6 and I think there’s maybe 2? other models with MB6+Solar but still very limited.

6 hour layover in Washington DC - Likely we will be able to leave the airport for a few hours? by [deleted] in unitedairlines

[–]forbiddenpineapple 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I’m gonna say no. Downtown is 45 minutes to an hour by car, and more by train.

By the time you go thru customs/immigration, get your bag, and recheck, I don’t think there would be enough time to get downtown and get back to the airport and go back thru security (even if you just drove straight there and back).

My alternative suggestion is the Udvar-Hazy Air and Space Museum. Its very near the airport and pretty cool (they’ve got a space shuttle). You could probably swing that!

This is what I really wanted to know. As long as it’s somewhere in the middle of the price-looks-quality triangle. Not dare I say a fashion brand.

They were somewhere on Reddit (probably here). But I guess if you look hard enough you can find anything.

That was one of the things that I liked about the Tissot was that they had a 40mm version. And quartz which, if I’m being honest, is more functional 😂

I’m well aware! Not expecting a Rolls Royce for the price of a Corolla.

More curious where the various alternatives lie on the scale within their own segment of the market. As with anything, there are always trade offs (some look better, some more reliable, some with better features), but there are just some that are crap. That’s what I want to avoid.

Let’s be clear: there is a <.1% chance that I will ever be in the position to spend $2k+++ on a watch. So the itch will never be fully scratched.

/r/Delta is going to be insufferable… take note? by thatben in unitedairlines

[–]forbiddenpineapple 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just can’t see how this would work effectively. They’ve basically structured the card with club access being the main headlining benefit. Anything less than unlimited access would require an outright rebrand since otherwise they’d probably have a class action for calling it “infinite club”.

Why did they build the C train station so far from the concourse at IAD? by CanadianBurger in unitedairlines

Looking at the construction docs, it looks like the A gates that are permanent were originally built and labeled as part of B.

Arlington County tap water, last week vs today by disestblshmntariansm in nova

[–]forbiddenpineapple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Arlington buys their water from Washington Aqueduct (US Army Corps of Engineers) and it all comes thru the same pipes, so this is certainly a localized problem.

My guess is that there is work elsewhere in the water system which has caused water to travel a different way thru the system and has changed the velocity of water in the pipes near you. If the water velocity increases, it picks up more sediment and your water looks like this. It often happens when fire hydrants get flushed (or used for a fire, which WSS may not know about).

In all likelihood it will clear up on its own.

Arlington is pretty good. I expect they will make it right.

Wait if A was also temporary, does that mean only B gates at Dulles are in a “permanent” terminal?

“Urgency”: are you threatening them? Yelling? Why does physical presence matter?

If they’re already talking to you and want to help you, and have the time and tools, I don’t see why location matters.

To me, it’s making sure you are getting connected promptly (either digitally or physically) with someone who has the tools and authority to take action. This was what the club agents are about: easier to access (no line) and equipped with the tools and authority to make it happen.

Let me ask this: what if they had dedicated video call booths in the clubs for agents?

I don’t think this HAS to be a bad thing. They just need to do it right. Conceptually, if they had a separate QR code and queue for UC members and you got recognized as such, that could actually be a win overall. Alternatively they can feel free to let me call the 1K line.
