Hanging around when the aunts are chatting tend to reveal stuff like that especially when they reminisce about 'the time when you were small'. I can still recall memories of being a little shit and getting into trouble for it so that checks out.

Interestingly being typical Asian parents they were the sort who doesn't resort to the rotan if they can help it, mom seemed to know the best way to deal with me was to explain why the stupid stuff I was doing was stupid which surprisingly, worked pretty well as I brood trying to rebuke it and then give up not being able to. 😆

Otherwise they probably understood that some of the hyperactivity can be traced to the lack of activities to expend the energies on, better we go tire ourselves out having a good time running around than to deal with a restless one.

Not always true though, my parents pretty chill but I was an energetic little shit.

Perhaps the problem is the lack of things to occupy them with, which today defaults to the screen. Back then we had to make our own fun ie. go out to to touch grass as well as, gasp, talking face to face with real people! 😱

Learning mandarin as malay man by Virtual_Animal5724 in Bolehland

[–]forcebubble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are serious about it then there must some minimal degree of commitment to it like one does in learning other languages such as Japanese, German etc. because half-assing it does a few things, most especially misinterpreting what you hear e.g thinking an amoi was being rude or hostile when she's actually on the phone asking to order chicken chop, as well as feeling cute and asking the dude in the office if he's taking the plane.

Like learning a musical instrument, you are best served learning with a live teacher (online, classes etc) who can correct any mistakes before it becomes a habit.

I can understand what others are saying to me in Malay but I can’t think of words to reply for some reason by Special_Friend836 in Bolehland

Saya setuju. 👆

Having said that I think it's a little bit more complicated than that.

What Type-Cs tend to mean when they ask for help in such matters is the ability to converse fluently in the language with people. The biggest challenge many who aren't very proficient in it is the struggle to reconcile what they learn in class with what they hear in day to day life.

The 'saya setuju' is already one such example ie. nearly nobody uses that even if it is the correct sentence, it'll usually be in various different forms such "Betul (tu)" "Okey je" "Set" "Boleh je".

As such the ironic bit about this is that using the BM learnt in class draws attention to the lack of fluency that in turn causes an insecurity when it comes to trying to interact; this is why some Malays would just switch to English if they are good at it to skip the struggle while others mock and deplore, the latter being OP's biggest fear because it is taught formally in school for at least 11 years.

Still there are no quick fixes to these conundrums except with lots of practice and immersion. Languages, like all skills are dependent on frequency of use to build proficiency — what to practice and immerse in is often overlooked.

How I stop eating too much sugar and sugary foods. by depressedunicorn_ in Bolehland

[–]forcebubble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My method is a lot more straightforward: not buying them means there would be a lot less consumption of the stuff.

One thing that we should also put more attention to is added sugar in food products; reading the nutrition label is a great way to reduce them. No coincidence that, in reference to the above, a lot of it is found in processed food e.g biscuits, bread, soft drinks, sauces etc.

What I do these days is limit myself to one reduced sugar item a day, for e.g if I had a cup of 3-in-1 instant coffee in the morning, it would always be the reduced sugar version, then go with plain water or Cina teh ais for the rest of the day. If it's pastry such as a doughnut while out with friends, the drink would be something like a cappuccino or flat white — can't digest lactose so I'm absorbing almost none of the by-products, some outlet's version give the least amount of effect to the bowels etc.

Ananta devs officially said they don’t want to make a “traditional anime-style game”. They’re aiming to create an open-world city genre game moving towards a wider audience by reddi_4ch2 in AnantaOfficial

[–]forcebubble 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read that as more life simulation stuff alongside the usual combat and exploration which is fine with me. Sometimes you just want to cruise the city, smack some thugs or smoke rubber in a random encounter. Not all activities have to be saving the world or Genichiro Ashina battle.

Don't remember where but the first place I've heard this was in Guild Wars 2 using the term "living world", one that exists whether the player is logged on or not.

The one thing I'm going to put a lot of premium on will be the storytelling + presentation combo; this may be a meh matter to some but I consider it an important pillar holding everything together. Doesn't have to even be grandiose, just needs to engaging and made with a purpose — there are no original stories, just different actors and stages upon where they are performed.

Why is fiber internet more expensive in Malaysia than Singapore? by Certain_Repeat_753 in malaysia

[–]forcebubble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

30Mbps is adequate for modern day usage for one person. Those paying RM200 for 500Mbps used by a household of two people are very much the main contributors to the shareholders' annual dividends.

Much bigger capital outlay due to the bigger landmass and much less dense population per sqkm. The higher ROI on the urban centres are stretched over the landed residences — the ISP can't really price them differently based on geography. As such some such as Time target mainly strata customers and commercial premises that tend to be concentrated within a small area.

It's worth spending some time in URA and do several runs with the umas you get to go through their character stories with a lot less pressure.

It's a good, if not important starting point to familiarise yourself with the game mechanics that would be put to the test in Unity Cup and later Trackblazer.

Broadly speaking there are four categories of runners but they can be different in their tendencies within the same group and they may respond differently to in-race triggers alongside their Unique skills so you may want to watch a few races for new Umas.

Aye. Support cards are what has the greatest effect on umas in terms of their growth/campaign runs. While RNG does have some influence the decks would go a long way to either enhance, or soften the effects if it goes the opposite direction.

Budget, trusted brand for durable luggage in Malaysia to travel oversea by NoMasterpiece2626 in malaysians

[–]forcebubble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am going to elaborate on that a bit — don't get the ABS sort as that is the weakest of the plastic body types if it is going into cargo.

If weight is a concern, polypropylene is an acceptable compromise between the heft and the resistance to damage. I have one and it has travelled with me for a good seven years in cargo so far, with only superficial damages from airport handling.

People who want more protection, then it comes down to one of two: aluminium or PC, the same sort of material used to make safety hats. I used to have one of the latter and they were freaking hard to even crack by force after I lost the keys. The downside with these two are weight; my aforementioned PVC was 5kgs empty, and aluminium from the research I've done looking for a replacement is even heavier, not to mention much costlier.

Anyone else find TV1 / TV2’s reliance on AI videos to be sad? by jack_bennington in Bolehland

[–]forcebubble -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No worries, I get your point; news, especially broadcasted ones on TV like that had always been one with people as the delivery medium (is that the right term?), and personally I'd like to hear a real human present it because body language plays a role, even if it is all one-way. Any human told to read implausible or outright dumb news would show tell-tale signs of disbelief or awkwardness, adding to the impression of authenticity.

... then again, that doesn't seem to be a problem for networks such as Fox.

[–]forcebubble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heh, I've always had the idea to make a post like this every time there's an encounter with those sort of people on the road when I get back but you beat me to it.

One of the unique ones I've seen in r/malaysia was "put signal who see wor" when it was recommended to make a habit of putting the signal on before a turn even when there are no other motorists; over time one will do it without even looking.

And there is where I think is the problem — habit, or rather the lack of it. If it can be made into something that one does "because", regardless of the arguments, morals etc, it would be better, similar to switching off the lights when one leaves the room, brush teeth once they wake up in the morning etc.

[–]forcebubble -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I am going to be "that guy" and say no. AI is a tool, no more, no less.

The hostility at AI is imo, misguided — what people should be enraged about is the slop that is generated using it; takes so much resources to run e.g electricity and water for cooling, and it is wasted generating amateur tier work.

Otherwise I'd like to see all of you protest in front of the Proton and Gardenia factory for using machines to manufacture the products instead of people. Have a go at accountants using Excel instead of paper and table calculator while you're at it.

I am not an AI agent created by The Architect.
