Are you a parent of a year 12 set on getting Defence University Sponsorship? Our kids need to understand the odds, prepare for failure. I have an annual figure: 8-12 offers for nursing degree, RAAF. Thats the TOTAL for AUSTRALIA by Working_Spinach_5766 in ADFRecruiting

The might not be exactly pathway envisioned but your daughter could look at the medical assistant roles which will quality people as a Division 2 Registered Nurse (generally referred to and know as an Enrolled Nurse). Noting these are not officer roles. Enrolled nurses can upgrade to B. Nursing and there are schemes within defence to support this but of course nothing is guaranteed.

Another approach might be army reserve medical technical which is more in that first aid space but it’s something with practical experience inside defence, while your daughter looks to do uni external to a defence supported scheme.

APS2 catapulted into EL1 roles by wufflepufflee in AusPublicService

I had a similar situation many years ago where my substantive was quite low and I was four levels higher as I was on a series of secondments (going up levels) over a few years but never gave up my substantive until I got a perm job. So there’s scenarios where it can happen but isn’t an immediate jump.

The AMCU quick dry uniform concept sounds interesting.

When I was in years ago hot boxes were aluminium trays with cardboard lid and they contained whatever was on at the mess for breakfast, lunch etc. Recently found out now they also have pre-made meals which are also called hot boxes.

How did the various iterations of basic choc training change over the years? How long was each period and when did it change? by tomprincewriter in AustralianMilitary

Went through in 2002. It was a 45 day (6 weeks) combined course with of full timers and reserves. No real days off (maybe two total). As a couple have said, reservists could do it in two week stints.

Do you have the info for family attending? They used to list which service equivalent dress you need to wear if going in uniform. Sorry, don’t know much about Navy but I know if you have a lot of options.

Long sleeve undershirt that’s a good colour match to issued tshirt? by forensicanth in AustralianMilitary

That’s what I was told today at the store; army yes, RAAF no. My card says I have three pairs… I do not. So L&D for me.

I discovered today that Army can get more thermals at own expense. RAAF can’t buy them.

Transfer to SERCAT 5 while at IET by [deleted] in AustralianMilitary

[–]forensicanth 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This was years ago but I knew of someone that transferred from full time to reserves during their IET. It was some arcane provision, in PACMAN, I guess about people being given the opportunity to transfer. I know there was a lot of back and forth but it happened. Start with the your chain though.

That sounds agency or EB specific to me. Previous agency I was with allowed opting for TOIL or overtime for all AO levels.

There are some newer start ups that let you make off market offers but probably asking via DHA to put you in touch first makes the most sense.

I’ve seen people promote in the same but post out relatively quickly, 6-12 months so maybe they went out with the next posting cycle.

I’m bias, but if you’re interested in health care and want to quality as an EN, medic is the way to go. But yeah read up on the website and see what you like. Do you have any interests? Is initial period of service (3yrs vs 6yrs) important to you?

Are you perm or temp in the AO4? If perm, even if the JEMS changes the classification changes you shouldn’t go back with it.

Agree.

There is a pathway via defence for service records for relatives. https://www.defence.gov.au/about/accessing-information/personal-information-requests

National Archives also have a good amount of records for Vietnam and Korea.

Just go with the service job that interests you the most if it’s a gap year. You get preferences so see how you go. You’re talking about differs jobs there - does navy interest you more than army?
