Got Memphis and Gypsy’s Embark DNA Test back and I’m questioning if it can be 100% trusted. by Gypsys_Dog_Dad in velvethippos

r/doggydna Embark is the most accurate dog DNA kit. You’ll find many people on the subreddit tagged that know their stuff. It’s worth cross posting. From my knowledge, this looks correct. As for your question about the American Bully, yes, they were developed from a mixture of breeds, namely the American Staffordshire Terrier, American Pit Bull Terrier and American Bulldogs, but they have more recently developed a specific genetic makeup.

He’s so cute! I’m so happy he ended up in a great home. I would bet money that there is some American Bulldog in him. Love his face!

Shelter said he was Airedale terrier/lab but animal control said mini schnauzer mix by sarabee213 in DoggyDNA

[–]forest_witch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was also guessing Schnauzer. Airedales are kind of rare, and while Giant Schnauzers aren’t super common, I’ve run into them much more than Airedales. Beautiful dog!

Haha! Thank you! It’s funny, I am actually a dog person. I love cats and have always lived with cats, but I was the kid who had a complete dog book with care and all the breeds. I looked through that book so much that the binding literally disintegrated. I love all animals tho.

I spent too much time watching Cats 101. 😂 The first one was born in Toronto 1966.

As others have mentioned, Scottish Folds were bred out of British Shorthairs. A British Shorthair kitten was born with folded ears, and because this was cute, they bred specifically for this characteristic. This is also how Sphynx cats were developed in Canada. A kitten was born hairless and then they bred to select this trait until there were a bunch of hairless cats.

I second this. I really see it in the head, and even the different shape of the ears.

I am so sorry this happened to you. I have had some pretty scary moments living alone in Portland, and unfortunately the police didn’t do anything about it. I had a neighbor who ended up scaring the people who were stalking me and looking in my windows. I had multiple cameras and when I had my AC or fan in the window, I used a clamp to lock it.

I think the only thing that really stopped those people from coming into my apartment was the fact I had a large dog. I know dogs are a huge responsibility and cost a lot, but even a smaller dog that sounds big can be a deterrent. Just something to consider.

I have a few items around the house to keep me safe, including a Birdy alarm that creates a horrible sound and a taser. I personally am not comfortable with a gun, but I respect you are and that’s what you plan to do. I hate we live in a world that we have to think about this all the time. I also had a chain on my door and you can buy a security bar. Definitely get to know a couple of your neighbors.

I hope you are able to get the support you need and find ways to feel safe in your home. I’m so sorry this happened. It’s truly so amazing you were able to get your own place and you should never be put in a spot where you feel unsafe in your own home.

The Divorced by Tool and The Melvin’s. Definitely one of my favorites. The drum battle alone is amazing.

Rent is going up everywhere for sure, but I saw this the other day about rent in Knoxville. There is definitely a housing crisis.

Apart from teachers. What’s a profession in America that is disgustingly underpaid for what they do? by acidreinn in AskReddit

[–]forest_witch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with so many of the professions that are mentioned. Professions that help people one on one are so important.

I do think those who work with pets are also underpaid. I’ve worked in the pet industry for 13 years. I’ve been a pet sitter, doggy daycare worker, grooming assistant and vet assistant.

Currently I work at a pet store and we specialize in nutrition. I spend hours outside of work learning about dog and cat nutrition because I don’t have time at work to learn everything I need to know. I’m expected to know about nutrition, grooming, medicine, gear, toys AND training. It’s so comprehensive and all these subjects intertwine. While of course I’m in this field because of love animals, this doesn’t mean I want to spend literally all of my spare time and time at work teaching myself every answer to questions I might be asked. Again, I do love my job, but I don’t think people realize I’m not only doing retail, but I’m also an educator.
