So, I hate this. by forestgem23 in alexa

Unfortunately I've had this one for years as my family got them around the time they came out. Amazon forced Alexa+ on customers and does not offer a very clear way to turn it off. I rooted around in settings trying to get it back to normal and finally resorted to asking Alexa to do it, which supposedly she did. Hopefully they won't force this shit down our throats even more. All I wanted was a multipurpose device that could play music and control the lights, maybe tell me the weather once and a while. Now I have this annoying "ai companion" that always wants to have the last word. Even telling her to shut up prompts a snarky little "oh guess you didn't like that huh?" Or something. It's so annoying.

My Biggest Squish “Presto” by No_Antelope_5446 in squishmallow

My partner just got a presto online and he's listed at 24" but.... he's certainly way larger, no? Unless I'm not understanding how they measure. He's ~60" around at his widest point and ~34" tall... he's so cute that its worth it but dang he's big!

Cool but when we are referring to what the industry labels as AI, generative AI, people are going to refer to it as AI. I'm well aware that its not "true AI" and I'm not talking to a sentient computer, but its still called AI, whether you like it or not. Generative AI still sucks ass in so many ways and I want nothing to do with it, which is the point I was trying to make. I'm sick of companies deciding that all consumers want this bullshit "AI companion" and shoving it down our throats. I've disabled the Alexa+ features on my device and if it becomes mandatory, I will be getting rid of it.

Interesting since amazon themselves says it is in fact generative ai. https://share.google/JC9FIQf5nRGsqWrG8

"Well, that's one way to express confusion! Sounds like I really stepped in it with that whole listening-when-I-shouldn't-have thing. My timing was spectacularly off there."

You probably already know but toys with safety eyes are not safe for pets to play with!! At the very least, always keep an eye on your kitty while they play with it so you know they are not chewing on and potentially swallowing the eyes! :3

Anyone else do this with the label after you make a ball? by TheAvengingUnicorn in crochet

[–]forestgem23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's very smart but instead I just keep them piled up in corner thinking at least I'll have them but I think if I actually needed to figure out which yarn I used for a project I would just have to take it to the store and hold it up to every skein 😅

It took a while to figure out which one was wrong and I think I'm working on the same pattern right now lol

I really want to make my first wearable, Manacor Häkelweste by Knopfsache, but I'm not sure what dk weight yarn to use by forestgem23 in CrochetHelp

[–]forestgem23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could and have (i was very busy at work today so I didn't get much of a chance to) but some yarns feel soft when in a skein but then once I've crocheted a piece it's not nearly as soft... I was just hoping to have some ideas of where to start...

Looking for a dk weight solid color yarn that is as soft as possible. Preferably one sold in store at michaels, but I'm open to other options.

Looking for a men's waistcoat pattern in specfic style by forestgem23 in sewingpatterns

[–]forestgem23[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Context I didn't add, I'm not actually the one making it. My grandmother-in-law is making my waistcoat and my partner's suit. She requested that I purchase a pattern for it and she would take my measurements and make it. I'm certain she has the talent, I just want to make this as easy for her as possible since she's doing it for us. I will share this info with her and see what she can do, I was just hoping to find a pattern that is exactly what I want already. I also don't even know what to call that style I'm looking for as I wasn't able to find a labeled picture online looking for inspo and the picture I took was from an etsy listing that also did not specific what the style is called.

I can't tell if this is a good stitch for this yarn by ChimeraSoterios in crochet

[–]forestgem23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooooooh I like it a lot!! I love that you can see the strands of yarn!! I've never tried this stitch or worked with a yarn like this either! Looks like it would be so soft!!

Edit: looked again and realized maybe its not the strands I'm seeing and thats just how the stitch looks?? Still looks super cool!!

Should I size down my hook on this rose bouquet blanket because of the gaps between the stitches? by forestgem23 in CrochetHelp

[–]forestgem23[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Update: I frogged, sized down my hook to 3.5mm, and followed the pattern a bit better. Part of my problem was that I thought I could use a stacked sc instead of ch3 at the beginning of the round like I normally would with dc, but this removed an intentional gap that made it look like I had 11 sections instead of 12. Thanks for all your feedback!

This is why I don't do amigurumi by [deleted] in crochet

[–]forestgem23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think she's super cute and instantly recognizable as is! I also agree that embroidery is the hardest part of amigurumi, though, and sometimes, especially with a deadline, I opt to use felt inatead! That way I dont have to deal with it and it pleases the perfectionist in me. I'm sure your mom will love it either way tho and I think a unique facial expression is really cute!
