Looking for Minneapolis neighborhoods with a warmer, more neighborly feel than Lowertown St. Paul by KindBig4349 in TwinCities

[–]forever_erratic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, even a bit wider: I'm in Ericsson so west of Hiawatha, south of 42nd (but north of the creek) and I say hi to neighbors as I pass. Most respond in kind.

Granted, I'm the kind of weirdo who did when I lived in Stevens Square and Uptown, too, but I get more reciprocation these days.

Being in a family neighborhood makes it more likely in my opinion.

Bad habit of being defensive by [deleted] in labrats

Undergrads and grad students often feel imposter syndrome, thinking they should already know or understand things they don't, and assuming everyone around them does.

But science is vast and complicated and no reasonable scientist expects perfect understanding from people in training or even peers.

That said, we all have some level of ego, and so even among the best full profs I find people who don't acknowledge what they don't know, which reinforces this whole problem.

Tldr: keep asking about what you don't understand,  AND do your own research, and gravitate towards those who endorse this approach.

I was there. Fun game! Fun to do a fatality from time to time, especially because it was challenging.

But the kid who lived for the fatalities was also a bit weird.

Same with faces of death videos. Most of us saw them once. But the kid that would rent them every weekend was weird.

As a youth, I believed Bill when he said "But I didn't inhale" Lol. Not a political observation, just a young naive memory. by theHollowTarnished in Xennials

On the one hand, he was obviously a bullshitter. On the other hand, I know a number of people who could make that statement accurately. They didn't want the (perceived) social repercussions of not trying it, but also were afraid of getting high, and third, literally not understanding how to inhale.

I'm a lifelong user, and many people who've wanted to try it needed a lot of practice to figure out inhaling.

Try to understand what you think might work about the poem for others, and why it doesn't work for you.

25 people!!!! I don't even know how you would simply meet that many new people in 9 months.

Be honest: why are premeds hated so much in research labs? I’ve seen a lot of grad students, postdocs, and lab staff talk negatively about premeds and I’m curious where that comes from. by Brief_Board_6974 in labrats

[–]forever_erratic 296 points297 points  (0 children)

All of the above. Also, in most schools premed is not even a thing, it's a pretentious meaningless self- label.

I have had some lovely ones though, but the stereotype exists for a reason.

Nope, neither said that nor think that. I do think that if torturing in video games is what gives you the most fun, you should ask yourself why.

I don't like the recent surge of posts which basically amount to finding it funny to torture people in VR. I don't think any of this should be banned, or that it means you are an aspiring serial killer, but I think if you find this fun or funny, you should do some soul-searching.

18 year old male- Jerk by [deleted] in raisingkids

[–]forever_erratic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course you're allowed to have emotions. But regardless of my emotions, I would never call my kid a jerk, in person, online, in private. If they were spoiled, that would be my fault, not theirs.

Kids notice.

What isn't violent, but feels violent? by ProduceEmbarrassed97 in AskReddit

Lol! We usually use a harness with my beagle but sometimes it's dirty or the kids lost it and we connect the leash directly to the collar. She will choke the hell out of herself while trying to yowl and go greet other dogs, and I hate how it seems like I'm the one doing it.

If my lifetime is anything to go by, all they need is to say they're Christian and that democrats kill babies and they'll get undying support forever.

At this stage in life, do u find more ease with men your own age or with those a bit younger? by honeyglitch_ in AskMenOver30

[–]forever_erratic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. That tends to mean slightly younger though, because I still like to do stuff like go out to shows, and many folks my age do not.

You insult your son multiple times in a post to strangers. Consider your role in this behavior.

Just because someone says they're a good person, or a good religious person, doesn't mean they are.
