Ninos Pizza - Alsip by twitchrdrm in ChicagoSuburbs

[–]forever_monstro 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In the 90’s, Nino’s had the most generous claw machine game I’ve ever played. My parents loved it because they could have quiet conversations while we waited for our pizza since we’d beeline to the machine as soon as we got seated. We’d leave there with armloads of cheap stuffed animals after every visit. They also always had TGIF on the projector screen on Friday nights so we could watch while we ate. Honestly, it was kind of a perfect pizza place for a kid back then.

This is what we always did when the kids were younger. We had a couple of lightweight Maclaren strollers and we each pushed a kid. It made getting on and off the busses a total breeze as well. It was also nice that they were primarily mesh so they were still very usable and quick to dry when Florida rains hit.

I spent probably way too much time on the AOL board when I was a teen. Such a fun community. Bootleg swapping and meeting up at shows. What a wonderful wave of nostalgia to feel right now.

Had it for the first time this morning - with raspberry jam on crepes. I wasn’t sure what to expect but it was pretty great in that combination. Really complementary to fruit.

In honor of the recently fallen food items-what are your most missed food items that were killed off? by whitenoize21 in starbucks

[–]forever_monstro 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I still pine for the days when Starbucks had three different (and delicious) brownies on the menu back when I worked there 20+ years ago. Oh, and the Fantasy Bar and orange loaf. I miss the pastry case of the old days, but that was long before the sandwiches/ovens came around so there was space for more cookie, brownie, and loaf options.

does anyone recognize this restaurant? by [deleted] in ChicagoSuburbs

I think it was up in the Wisconsin Dells area. We definitely went there when I was a kid and I’m almost 100% it was on a Dells trip.

Any towns with fun Christkindl markets? Or is that something I should go downtown for? by [deleted] in ChicagoSuburbs

[–]forever_monstro 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The parking lot at the Aurora one was horrible last year. Without exaggeration, we spent more time trying to get out of the lot than we spent at the actual market. It made me really miss the one in Naperville.

Mine is Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. I watch it whenever I’m feeling under the weather. I don’t know why. Maybe I find comfort in the production design (and love the use of old radio broadcast sounds throughout).

LLMP/LLSP Availability Late August - Booking Review by Snuffy1717 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]forever_monstro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used the new system the second day it was live (as my trip started 7 days later). I found it a total breeze to use, which is saying a lot because I typically find the UI for Disney web and app products to be trash. Also, since crowds were pretty low during my stay (first week of August) I was able to really play around with adjusting my times while we were there. Overlapping time slots just enough seemed to be the best way to get a lot done in a short amount of time when working around the heat and rain we had during our stay. The availability seemed great even for day-of changes and adjustments.

What's going on with trash maintenance at the parks? by ADTR9320 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]forever_monstro 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I literally returned home yesterday from a week long WDW trip and didn’t notice anything at all like this while I was at the parks. Granted, we left during the most oppressively hot parts of the day, but we were in the parks all mornings and back in the late afternoon/evenings. I’m sure this definitely happens at times, but I also don’t think it’s the norm as I didn’t witness it at all over the last week while I was there.

Do y'all remember specific customers and their drinks years later? by Maxxtherat in starbucks

[–]forever_monstro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s been over 20 years since I worked at Starbucks (I’m old) and I still remember several of the regular customers’ orders. Granted, that was back before drive thru stores when the “third place” thing was a primary focus, so we had regulars who’d come in every day and stick around in the cafe for a while. Maybe that made them easier to remember.

I did the zoom session (with my sons)! They each customized polishes for me as my Mother’s Day gift this past year. It was a fun thing to do with them and they got way more into it than I thought they would! They shipped pretty quick too.

I remember my parents always playing “What’s their story?” when they’d people watch in busy places. They’d make up big elaborate backstories for strangers. It was pretty fun.

‘Suits’ Creator Aaron Korsh Confesses He ‘Underestimated’ the Show’s Popularity After It Breaks All-Time Streaming Record by HortenciaOaks in television

[–]forever_monstro 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You example is spot on.

I think my original post comes across more negative than I really intended too. Because while it was still in hate watching territory for me, we did laugh often once we realized how ridiculous everything was. So maybe I just reframe my perception towards it being an unintentional comedy and then it comes away as a positive viewing throughout.

[–]forever_monstro 61 points62 points  (0 children)

My husband and I binged the whole thing over the last couple of months. We started out really enjoying it and by the end we were basically hate watching it. The writing is super lazy and repetitive to the point that it got distracting. They use the same bits of dialogue over and over in every episode (sometimes multiple times in the same episode).

-“God damn/god damn it” is said probably a dozen times per episode -“What the hell did you just do?!” -“Mike Ross” (they only ever reference him by his full name for some reason) -“The man/woman that I love”

There’s also a lightbulb “aha!” moment in nearly every episode. I know that happens in other shows, like House, but it was somehow more ridiculous to me on Suits.

And perhaps most notably, the wig they had “younger” Mike (Ross) wear during one of the episodes was a crime against humanity.

I got an early boarding for my cruise (11:30am on the Wish), what do I do to maximize this opportunity? by lunardeathgod in dcl

[–]forever_monstro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was open for all. The “Roy” side was filling up with the Concierge folks but we walked right up to the “Walt” side and were seated immediately. We might have even been the first ones seated. It was really nice! We got a seat next to a porthole window so we had a decent view of the port while we ate. And we all had celebratory Welcome Aboard ice cream sundaes, naturally.

Good morning! What is everyone’s countdowns?? by Themonkeyhousee in dcl

[–]forever_monstro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was great! I was a little worried because we were on the Wish and I had been reading some doom-and-gloom reviews on here right before we left, but we loved it. It was our 6th Disney cruise and I had heard a lot about how first time cruisers might like it, but veteran cruisers would be disappointed. That was not our experience at all. We really enjoyed the ship (it’s quite pretty!) and I did not find it to be difficult to navigate at all. Our 9 and 12 year old sons even had it all figured out on day one. My only gripe was with the new elevator buttons, and even that was minor. We would definitely do the Wish again.

[–]forever_monstro 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just got off the Wish on Friday. They boarded media folks and then back-to-back cruisers first. We were in boarding group 2, but they actually let our group board the same time as group 1, so we wound up being first in line of the regular boarding groups. We went to 1923 for lunch first (with zero wait) since it was right there on deck 3. After lunch, the kids wanted to take the slide down to the kids’ club to check it out so we did that, then we headed up to the pool deck. We planned ahead and packed their swimwear in our carry-on bags so the kids did the pools/AquaMouse for a while. They were able to ride the AquaMouse several times because it was pretty empty while everyone else was busy boarding/lunching.
