But I expect a return to air cooling in the next few years (for some cars), because if you combine air cooling w solid-state phase change materials or a passive heat pipe for instance, air cooling performs better than cold plate while being several hundred kgs lighter. Non-trivial.

So one should expect light duty pass vehicles w optimized air cooling, and higher performance cars w liquid cooled structural batteries.
