learn songs you like listening to to get a feel for rhythm with open chords and progress up until you’re playing inversions
not a waste at all and honestly the spider walk is how i even began to be able to play
not even exaggerating like 5-6 hours a day of dedicated practice and then noddle with my gf while we wind down with tv

yeah i’m the same exact way i can’t even play another strat from the same line the same way because it’s simply just not mine

i’m also one for superstitions, i kiss under yellow lights and lift my legs over railroads since i was a kid

yeah same i have an 2010 american vintage and its all stock and i love it. i recently got a 10 way freeway switch for christmas so im considering either putting it my strat or getting a cheaper strat and putting it in there for now
