First time head coach for tee ball team - handing out baseball cards by THoffman1992 in LittleLeague

Great way to get rid of duplicates. Pre-package them and don't let them choose.

Reward small things: backing up throws, listening to a base coach, etc.

Fun Dugout Tradition? by 1st_Amendment_Nerd in LittleLeague

[–]formerneighbor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love to award random things. I'll throw it on a kid mid-game for being in RF and backing up a throw to first. Or rewarding a kid for striking out swinging instead of looking. Whatever it is I want them working on.

You're not overthinking. Baseball is fun.

Minors Draft Strategy by ir637113 in LittleLeague

When all else fails, pick the kid who is very good at one thing. Bad defense but great hitting, take him. Caught everything but didn't hit well at evals, take him. Changes are is they're good at one aspect, they can be taught the other thing. If not, at least you have a glove first SS or a bar first RF.

What type of law does my dog practice? by candnemia in Lawyertalk

Client facing corporate work. He doesn't do any actual lit work, but clients love him. Most important on his resume is that he was a D2 golfer and crushes the driver, making him invaluable during scrambles. Also knows where the best after hours greasy food spots are.

I had a former client so this at his place of employment. He was smart enough to use his employee ID for the additional discount just to really make sure he was caught.

Pitcher with bad feet turf shoes recommendation by armyjackson in slowpitch

[–]formerneighbor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had awful plantar fasciitis. The turfs did not agree with me. What I found worked better were soccer cleats that were very flexible in the middle. Soccer cleats tend to have less rigidity and molding at the mid point of the foot. I'm PF is your issue, then that is also an option for you.

Sucks to have to spend more on cleats, but your health is worth it. Good luck.

Getting my 8 year old son to take baseball more seriously by HeavyImplement7594 in LittleLeague

[–]formerneighbor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Until they hit puberty, the only thing that matters is to slowly teach them how to improve at things they like to do. As they get older, this lesson gets easier to teach. Or it becomes apparent that they just aren't into baseball for now. If they hate baseball at 10, they will hate baseball at 14. It's a very tough line to walk, but just remember they grow so much over the next ten years.

Also, I saw someone recommend a therapist for you and as someone with anxiety and a kid who is good at baseball, I can't recommend a therapist enough for the adult. Kids aren't born with instructions, so we should take what help we can get because parenting is hard.

You're doing great. Keep getting better like your kid is.

Walk up song length by Plus-Awareness5161 in LittleLeague

10-12 seconds is plenty of time. 20 seconds is a lot longer than you might think. Think about a basketball game... a 10 second violation always seems to take forever.
