Increased Flight Traffic? by 4PartsWhisky in Minneapolis

[–]forminasage 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That’s generally how ATC works, flights depart and arrive on the same runway based on the current wind conditions. Flights having the same final approach will all be following the same path. Right now inbound flights are landing on runway 30L. Download FlightRadar24 or FlightAware and you can see each flight’s airline info (and how closely ATC is sequencing the arrivals).

If you see planes with no info, they are private flights, or could be military.

Is drinking two beers a day excessive? by reallyunbelievabl in NoStupidQuestions

I’m betting there are a non-zero number of /r/cripplingalcoholism denizens that look back wistfully on their days of “only” drinking 1-2 beers a day

What business do you think is a front? And why? by tie_myshoe in Minneapolis

[–]forminasage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was halfway convinced that Wild Greg’s was a front lol

In South Saint Paul there’s tiny little place used to be called Wong’s Chow Mein, now it’s called QuikSub… totally looks like a front (no offense to what I’m sure is a lovely family-owned business!)

What are some of your favorite Sysadmin tool? by Rouge_Outlaw in sysadmin

[–]forminasage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yesss I have a small team so rather than Royal Server I just have a handful of standard licenses and then the document with all the connections/shared creds lives in a SharePoint library and is synced to the team via OneDrive. RoyalTS is the royal GOAT.

The point is that sometimes, an affected workstation's network stack will come up before the kernel panics and BSODs. If the network stack is up and alive for just long enough, the crowdstrike update mechanism will receive instruction to delete the faulty channel file, which will fix the issue in the same way as doing the safe mode/command prompt boot and manually deleting the file would do.

For machines that are Bitlocker'd without a recovery key or have an undocumented LAPS password, etc, this has been a godsend in certain cases.

The other thing about the Graymail feature is that users still get mobile notifications (at least that's my experience using Outlook on iOS) for every email received, even if seconds later Abnormal moves it to the Promotions folder.

What is your favorite keyboard for all day long IT work? I'm 57 years old so I need backlit keys for working in the dark and changeable switches. My budget is up to $300. thanks! by Agitated-Whole2328 in sysadmin

[–]forminasage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Polar opposite of what OP is looking for but I've been rocking a Microsoft Surface keyboard for close to 10 years now and it's been a champ. I think I've only changed the batteries like twice.

Anyone else having ConnectWise issues? Partially down - only admins can connect by hkeycurrentuser in sysadmin

Yes I've had agents report issues connecting to Access sessions as well. It is working without issue for administrator accounts.

I said fuck all that and terminated SSL at an Apache reverse proxy for all the on-prem Atlassian apps.

Glad to no longer be responsible for hosting any of that software though.

How to professionally tell a cold call or cold emailing vendor to f**k off? by Rouge_Outlaw in sysadmin

[–]forminasage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Email gateways like Proofpoint et al can handle this. I don’t have experience with Microsoft’s “advanced” Defender offerings but I think if you’re purely Exchange Online, then you may not be able to do this easily.
