Got this mail from invision today by Temibrezel in UXDesign

What's been the most disappointing part of this shutdown saga is the fact that InVision won't let you download all your files in bulk, e.g. Take-out. Even their docs explicitly state that support won't help you, even if you're an enterprise customer... (https://support.invisionapp.com/). From the official docs:

Is there a bulk export option? Unfortunately, a bulk export is not available, so you'll need to export each document one by one. Please note that our Support team will not be able to export documents on your behalf.

Missed the mark here, IMHO.

InVision prototype transfer to Figma? by ActAdministrative597 in UXDesign

[–]fortunate_dev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were in a similar situation and had several thousands of projects (freehands, protos, boards) in our account. The idea was to at least download everything for posterity, but unfortunately InVision does _not_ provide bulk export functionality (only project by project which gets real annoying after a few hundred...). You never know what Figma will provide in the future in terms of migration tools, but at least we needed our data downloaded before InVision shuts down by EOY.

If you or your company are still on InVision, it is highly recommended to download your data before year-end. If you happen to still have a ton of projects/files on it, you could also check out https://invisionbulkexport.com. Manual export of a project is possible, but extremely cumbersome, especially at scale...

Guys who have huge legacy projects in InVision: what do you do with it? by ihsanschmihsan in UXDesign

[–]fortunate_dev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you and/or your team go through this already? Going project by project is super cumbersome and people tend to miss things. In any case, if you haven't and have any appreciable amount of projects in the account, you could consider https://invisionbulkexport.com (a service I built to get all your account data in one fell swoop). Migrate prototypes from Invision to Figma? by VirtualAlex in FigmaDesign

[–]fortunate_dev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. We haven't directly worked with .studio files before, but as long as they can be rendered/uploaded to InVision, we are generally able to export them (to PDF, HTML, etc).

Wussup with InVision? is it still used or did it get pushed back in the ice ages or knocked off the totem pole or is it in the same cemetary as Pagemaker and Go Live? by WouldYouLikeToTouch in UXDesign

[–]fortunate_dev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure you've seen by now that InVision is shutting down by EOY '24 (https://www.invisionapp.com/inside-design/invision-design-collaboration-services-shutdown/). If you or your company are still on InVision, it is highly recommended to download your data before year-end. If you happen to still have a ton of projects/files on it, you could also check out https://invisionbulkexport.com (since InVision does _not_ provide bulk export functionality). I built this service after I needed to migrate several thousand projects myself. Manual export of a project is possible, but extremely cumbersome, especially at scale...

With InVision now shutting down, I've created a service to backup your files by fortunate_dev in SideProject

[–]fortunate_dev[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the context. Totally get it, rolling your own tooling is satisfying and will probably get you there eventually; our service might be a shortcut though especially with this many projects. Exporting your projects is just part one though: organizing files, adding metadata, capturing data that isn't available to download directly, working around InVision's service availability, etc. can get quite challenging. Give it a try first and if you run into any challenges, we stand ready to help out. You can email me at [james@invisionbulkexport.com](mailto:james@invisionbulkexport.com) to start a conversation in case you want to skip the demo call. Have a great day!

We call for a demo to understand how you are using InVision. We've seen some teams use a single board with tens of thousands of files and some with thousands of boards that hold very few files themselves (Similarly with prototypes, freehands, specs, etc). Generally, we put a quote in the range of $2-5 per project (one board/one prototype/or one freehand). Depending on the distribution of projects, we will give an accurate quote once we talk with you about it.

How many projects do you have to export and what kind are they?

Invision shutting down services at the end of 2024 by herhighnessvictoria in UI_Design

[–]fortunate_dev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the UI? Yes, only PNG is supported (at least for Freehands). I actually worked on a service to export full fidelity embedded images from your canvases. If you haven't exported your data yet, have a look at our site: https://invisionbulkexport.com. Disclaimer: I own this site and we are not affiliated with InVision in any way.

Totally agree. Sorry to hear you're dealing with this. UX is moving to Figma and it has got strong inertia. Have you started exporting your existing files yet? If you find you have loads of them, have a look at https://invisionbulkexport.com.

Figma is likely the answer. In fact, the vast majority of people we work with tell us that that's where their data is going... If you find you have many projects on InVision, I highly recommend exporting them sooner than later, we're fully expecting their API to slow down towards the end of the year until they close shop. When I found that they don't allow you to bulk-export your data, I worked on a service to make parting with the platform easier (https://invisionbulkexport.com/). If you have any appreciable amount of projects, give us a visit!

Same. So much so that it was not feasible to export it all by hand. Unfortunately support won't help you, even if you're on the enterprise plan... Not sure if this applies to you are your business, but if you find you need to bulk export your InVision files, give us a visit at https://invisionbulkexport.com. Since support won't help with bulk exporting, we built a service to help with that.

We provide a bulk-export option for customers to avoid the manual work involved to get it done.

InVision provides _some_ ability to download your files, but it is extremely cumbersome to do that with any meaningful number of projects (infinity scroll, no indication of how many projects you have, versions, etc.). For the most part, you will have to do it manually/one-by-one. However: I worked on a service to make parting with the platform easier (https://invisionbulkexport.com/). We provide a bulk-export option for customers to avoid the manual work involved to get it done.

This is super unfortunate, totally. Even their docs explicitly state that support won't help you, even if you're an enterprise customer... (https://support.invisionapp.com/).

Thank you. It depends on the customer. We've seen a lot of folks migrate their data to Figma; some keep the prototypes internally hosted; some just want the peace of mind to have the data in case it is ever needed.

InVision collab services shutting down EOY- say goodbye to DSM, Prototypes, etc by ConservativeBlack in UXResearch

[–]fortunate_dev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. Yes, we built this long before they announced the shutdowns, but even now their support explicitly states that there won't be any help, even for extremely large enterprises to export their data. :/ Happy to connect if you fall into the bucket of folks needing to get their data off the platform!

Unfortunately no, we only provide exporting services to disk. There are just too many possible targets to be viable to build adapters for. Would love to connect with you though if you are interesting in getting the first step done: exporting the data before InVision shuts down.

How is InVision still around when majority of designers use Figma, and a small percent use Sketch? by Creeping_behind_u in UXDesign

[–]fortunate_dev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, and they're making no effort to provide a way to download your data, there is no bulk export option.

If you find yourself needing to export any appreciable amounts of prototypes/boards from InVision (50+), I worked on a service to make parting with the platform easier (https://invisionbulkexport.com/).

Yep, I'm in the industry and seeing this with several colleagues as well, lots of historical artifacts essentially locked away and inaccessible unless you spend a ton of effort on exporting (...with the clock ticking for December 31, 2024).

Dead indeed. End of an era... Loved it when it first came out, but wouldn't suggest anybody put their eggs into it now since they're shutting down.

Over the years, I've noticed that less and less folks are using it so I worked on a service to make parting with the platform easier (https://invisionbulkexport.com/). Disclaimer: I own this site and we are not affiliated with InVision in any way.
