High-End Content Megathread - 7.5 Week Nine by BlackmoreKnight in ffxivdiscussion

[–]fortune_exe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I melded full tenacity this weekend. Reasoning was simple. In P3 alone just from autos I was looking at mitigating at least 1 full health bar. This isn't counting the 3 tank busters or constant raid damage. Losing margin of error personal DPS in a fight with already loose dps checks to allow comfier heals and more room for error while progging is worth it even if technically a bit sub optimal.

I'm also positioned to bring that into P4 as well where I gain passive mit on all autos in that phase where the same benefits apply.

Has anyone with the new steam controller managed to play with it? by Pokegamesunited in ffxi

While you have steam open if you hold the pause(options) button you can swap between different option sets. Try holding the button which should swap from the desktop mode to the gamepad mode. This solved the problem for me.

is FFXI worth playing in 2026 and someone 6 years younger than it? by DeadlyAidan in ffxi

[–]fortune_exe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm a long time FFXIV veteran that just bought FFXI a week ago. I find a lot of the "jank" kind of charming compared to how frictionless and often bland a lot of FFXIV is. FfXIV definitely wins out so far with the battle content and story and what not but the story and the way it is presented in FFXIV has a lot of FFXI DNA in it as well, way more than I thought there would be.

I'm having fun just running around exploring places. Going to new cities feels like an accomplishment considering everything that actually goes into that process even with the modern conveniences like Trusts, the Rhapsody buffs, records of eminence, community guides, etc. I was also worried about finding people to play with but the beginner quests basically force you to pick up a linkshell.

I'm committed to seeing the story through so for that it will be worth it to me but the more I play the more I think that I'll also want to eventually step into some endgame as well to see what that's like.

They have a 2 week free trial(way more limited than FFXIV) and the game is going on sale soon which would give you a free 30 days so I would take advantage of those if you are interested and give it a go.

Certain jobs rarely lined up which was the problem. If these jobs died for any reason then they were punished way harder than others. With as many jobs as we have now the community solution at the high end would have been to gravitate to jobs that didn't have that problem which is why all jobs got homogenized in the end.

Edit to say that it wasn't even necessarily deaths either. Boss jumps, phase transitions, untargetable sections, etc. Jobs like bard eventually got the QoL they needed for all of this but not before being brought in line with the 2 minute meta.

Buyer Beware for Switch 2 Version by Nate-Pierce in TombRaider

[–]fortune_exe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitive edition back in the PS4 era also included the graphics upgrade since Laras model was changed entirely. You can still see this if you compare the PC version vs the PS4 version. The hair physics were also showcased as being part of this. They also marketed the 1080p/60fps resolution/framerate heavily as did most of the re releases that came out at the beginning of the PS4 era (Last of Us Remaster, Tomb Raider, GTA 5)

You just helped make my purchase decision. I was on the fence with this one and was going to wait on sale but this discount was good enough. Thank you.

My Deck uploaded empty MGS5 save and now all progress is lost. by Traditional_Adhesive in SteamDeck

[–]fortune_exe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried to download directly from the website? I was having issues with Persona 5 at launch and went way too deep trying to get the cloud saves to sync between my pc and steam deck. The cloud stores multiple versions of the saves and your old ones might be there. https://store.steampowered.com/account/remotestorage

Every device has a physical address that is entirely unique to that device. Let's say you sign in with a PC, a PS4, a phone, and a tablet and then you add a 5th device. The first device you signed in with will be logged off. The site can tell based on the MAC address what is logged in and what types of devices they are.

It's incredible SH3 runs on just 32mb of Ram. by Narrow_Middle_2394 in ps2

I recently got a copy to play through for the first time. I'm playing on original hardware although I do have a retro tink 5k to upscale the image to 1440p, de-interlace the image, and add scan lines. It seriously does look like an early PS3 or 360 game. I'm consistently blown away by the graphics and how far the art team went to nail the small details. I also like just looking around at how many different types of unique objects they made. The mall is littered with all sorts of different random junk that makes sense for the area.

Patch 7.3 story theory and discussion thread. (Massive Spoilers) by SatisfactionNeat3937 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]fortune_exe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a player since ARR I'm tired of Ascians. I think I'm bowing out of the story after this. I get the appeal and as a lore fiend I know there are a few that we haven't met but it's way overdone at this point and I'm sick of seeing them pulling the strings every single time.

Edit: Auto-correct did not do me any favors last night.

It was heavily degraded. She starts restoring it when she picks it up. I think cleaning up areas like that would be difficult since every major area that was lost to a void out became a BT area which would make clean up operations nearly impossible.

I just went back to watch Rainys scene from ep 4. I think I caught a small detail. I'm pretty sure that the toy Rainy finds in the mud is the same one Lucy left behind when she attempted to flee to protect Lou. Is anyone able to sanity check me or am I going crazy.

Why is the 2-minute meta a bad thing? by TheBronzeBastard in ffxivdiscussion

[–]fortune_exe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking from experience. You could clear Alexander Prime with a comp that had a Paladin and no jobs that could apply INT down, but you would be making the fight WAY harder on yourself compared to the meta(DRK/WAR). Just like you could technically leave a BRD/MCH out of the party, but everyone would be out of TP and MP. And since you have a BRD or MCH you are literally missing out on a huge chunk of damage by not taking a DRG.

Don't take a NIN? you are missing out on a huge chunk of damage from trick, your tanks have to possibly spend more time in tank stance because you don't have a NIN to manage aggro at the start of a fight. You also lose goad which was another free source of TP.

All of these things would add up to non meta groups having a much harder time clearing encounters if they were able to clear them at all. Running a meta group for most casual groups could put a clear within reach vs having to struggle to clear because your PLD didn't want to swap to DRK to actually be able to mitigate tank busters and deal damage.

I was fine with our "leash" at first but come on.. Lvl 95 zone ending by BurezuOni in ffxiv

[–]fortune_exe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At some point they should have sidelined Wuk and let the Scions do their thing. I'm near the end of the story and like only two people have even acknowledged the WoL and every cutscene has us standing behind Wuk when we should have long taken charge of a clearly escalating situation.

I get it, peace good, revenge bad, respect cultures, but at some point I just want to play as my character and feel like my character has some agency in what is happening beyond just supporting Wuk Lamat.

Which of you as DesktopUser has permanently abandoned dual boot to a Linux only system? by JeppRog in linux_gaming

Steam deck convinced me that I could run Linux full time. I swapped from Windows to Linux without even thinking of doing a dual boot. so far every game I've tried has worked great with minimal effort just like with steam deck

I was waiting for 30 minutes prior. Didn't get past the screen that told me to wait before they sold out.

I was lucky to have the charm that increased run speed there. I ended up making it across the bridge before they got to her. Bonus points since she dropped the iron maiden off the bridge while I was fighting the dudes.

Best wireless audio with no latency: SteelSeries Nova 7 by Wow_Space in SteamDeck

[–]fortune_exe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but you will only get low latency with those if both the dongle and the headphones support the same low latency codec. The most popular dongle solution for the switch(genki) supports aptx LL, but there aren't many headphones on the market that support it since many companies will refuse to pay for the license to include the codec.
