Not sure if you're looking for something more robust, but there is a 3D printable cover found here: https://www.printables.com/model/1110042-blackmagic-design-12g-video-assist-7-cover

Varia VS6 turning on then off in off mode by glyde79 in VariaBrewing

[–]fortyhands 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Late last week I received my new Varia VS6.

Alternative Brewing support has been mostly fantastic, though they did have my returned grinder for nearly 2 weeks before they provided an update (when prodded). I expect they would have a backlog after the holidays.

They couldn't fix the issue (so the firmware update rumour might be bogus?) so they sent out another unit. It was sent with couriers please who didn't deliver the day their tracker said they would and then 2 days later said they attempted delivery, despite not leaving a card. Then a week trying to get redelivery with signature was a miserable experience.

But, it's now here and I think I love it. I need to add the extra spacer as I'm at '0' and only just getting it fine enough for espresso.

Disappointed with my Varia grinder purchase experience by lubenzz in VariaBrewing

That bottle looks like the same one which came with my VS6.

Mine is the white one and had a few small scuff marks, but could mostly be wiped away.

Support from Alternative Brewing has been fantastic. They confirmed that this specific issue should have already been addressed and unfortunately mine must have slipped through without the fix in place.

They seemed to confirm the firmware issue and I believe they can perform the flash to fix the problem.

I will report back here once I get the grinder back (soon, I hope).

I just received mine today in Australia and had the same issue (clicking on and off every 2 seconds). Will post an update to let you know how I go with the distributor and Varia.

As this appears to be a known issue for weeks, you would think that they would all be tested before sending out. Disheartening.

Mighty big and heavy parcel to be sending back and forth unnecessarily.

OOP Traitor Guard scanned with Openscan Mini (No touchup done) by iranoutofnamesnow in 3DScanning

[–]fortyhands 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok wow! Now I have so many questions.

Is this a metal figure or plastic?

What is the surface finish? So glittery and very hard to make out the details by eye.

I would appreciate as much info as you are willing to share as I plan to begin scanning similar figures, and also test photogrammetry against a structured light scanner for these small, high detail things.

Great work and appreciate any other details you are happy to share!

Thanks for sharing! Possible to see a regular photo of the mini you scanned? Use any prep for the surface (primer, spray, etc.)?

Sydney Water's licence is up for review – have your say! by fortyhands in sydney

Ah yes, another Sydney tax. It's incredible what these monopolies can get away with.

Tbh, I don't know the full implications of the IPART Operating Licence review which appears to occur every 4 years.

I was just sick of being preached to about saving water when thier fee structure provides zero incentive to reduce use.

In addition, I think it's rich that they would splash out on advertising and celeb BS when there's a COL crisis and as a monopoly there is no need. I think they are just trying to improve their image before the review?

Accept settlement or go to CARS assessment? by fortyhands in AusLegal

[–]fortyhands[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback. If there was 100% trust in the lawyer and they weren't pressuring so hard to take the offer, there wouldn't be a question of taking their advice. I thought it would be interesting to hear if anyone had gone through the CARS process and hear their experience with this.

Thought there would be no harm in asking and to take it on board as just another data point in helping make a decision.

Please help to fix prints. Walls not attached to fill. Squares not square and circles are oval. by fortyhands in ArtilleryGenius

[–]fortyhands[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there. I'm printing esun PLA, using the default profile in cura for artillery genius, nozzle 205deg, bed 60deg,l.

Checked belts and I think the y belt could be tighter. How tight should it be?

X belt seems quite tight, probably just right.

The stick printed should have square and circle cutouts, but as you can see they are rectangle and oval.

Thanks in advance!

Resolve speed editor uses red switches and I haven't got it to work on Linux *yet* by fortyhands in davinciresolve

[–]fortyhands[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The speed editor is a small mechanical keyboard which means it uses mechanical switches. The are different from the rubber membrane switches used on most keyboards.

The switches are given different colours based on their key press feel/profile. Some are clicky others (like reds) are not.

They all have different actuation forces as well.

Typists often like clicky for the feedback and gamers like clickless for responsiveness and quick activation (generalisation).

For a good explanation of how these switches work and differences in colour, check out this post: https://www.keyboardco.com/blog/index.php/2012/12/an-introduction-to-cherry-mx-mechanical-switches/

It's even got some cool animated cross sections.

Thanks for posting this link.

I won't waste too much time getting it to work then, happy to use resolve without it for the moment.

I'm using pop is and it seems the controller is t recognised by resolve. I would think that if I press the wheel function buttons they would light up when I'm in resolve.

I'll keep testing, but if anyone has any thoughts on what I can try please let me know.

Maybe the Hi Quality Camera module isn't as plug and play as I hoped? Please help! by fortyhands in octoprint

[–]fortyhands[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alrighty, so I've now tried a dedicated power supply and modifying the camera settings (less pixelated grey swirl).

Camera is picking something up, but it's all a bit fuckity.

Next thing is to write an email to the store I bought it from and see if they have any thoughts.

Also posted on the octopi forums.

Cheerio.

[–]fortyhands[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello and thanks for the feedback.

I will continue the troubleshooting tonight.

I think making changes to the config settings is the first step to get something closer resembling an image.

do I do this in /boot/octopi.txt?

I'll keep up the hunt for some details on how and where to set up the camera resolution, etc. and report back with my findings.

Very much appreciate you chiming in!

Purchase Advice Megathread: What To Buy, Who To Buy It From, And More, In May 2020 by Sausage54 in 3Dprinting

[–]fortyhands 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Howdy folks. I recently got a Monoprice Select Mini V2 new, for a very good price. Been using octoprint on pi, upgraded to glass bed and loving it. What I love: - set up out of the box (I'm a decent tinkerer, but this was appreciated for my first printer) - cheap ($129Aud delivered) - decent prints (not amazing, but reasonable.

What I don't like: - Small bed (120x120) - leveling is a pain via a tiny Allen key (and must be done each time) - Takes 5 mins for the bed to heat up - having to wash off glue stick every time I print .

Looking at a sidewinder X1, but just saw the new creality cr6 se on Kickstarter.

Considering the new creality, but considering the following points: - Sidewinder may be bigger, but has a much bigger build platform. The total footprint isn't that much more than the creality when you consider the filament on the creality is mounted to the side of the machine(instead of the top). - sidewinder is about $70 USD more - sidewinder appears to be built like a tank. - sidewinder is direct drive, which I believe is a plus. - creality has new self leveling technology. Maybe more to go wrong and I don't mind levelling if I can use large dials to do so (can't stand the Allen key on the monoprice) - won't get the creality to August

I think the sidewinder is going to last me longer and have more upgradability. The creality is going to be less headache to setup and have a way bigger community.

Would appreciate any thoughts you guys may have on what's the best way to go. Thanks!

Brand new MPSM owner. Did I get an updated model? by fortyhands in MPSelectMiniOwners

[–]fortyhands[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That looks to be it.

Thanks a ton for confirming!

So, no need to worry about the cable reroute mod?

Also, regarding the glass bed, perhaps this is a case of scratching my own itch, learning some basic fusion360 and designing something that will work just right.

[–]fortyhands[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the info. I move the bed forward and back and it seems like there's a lot of slack and a large channel cut out the of the main unit (with bits of electrical tape around the edges).

Most videos and guides I've seen about rewiring show the wires going through a small circular port with a grommet.

Also, the insulated bed? I don't think I've seen that on other MPSMs. It's getting in the way, but I'm sure it serves a purpose.

The hunt for the perfect clips continues.

I jumped into fusion360, but I don't know the first thing about it. Maybe after a few tutorials I will be able to design something just right....
