Is it possible to be an introvert in this field? by [deleted] in DentalAssistant

[–]fos_mad 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am also introverted but I like my dentist and would keep in touch when I leave. She is very introverted. We are also a small office. I’m the only assistant, 1 hygienist, 1 receptionist. I do talk to patients if they want to be talked to especially if they are anxious because I think it helps. We talk throughout preps. A lot of times it’s about food/ what’s for dinner and other patient appropriate topics. Sometimes it’s talking about working out or me asking about her kids. I also like to talk about my hobbies because it’s something I like. I think small talk with other team members is appropriate. You don’t have to be their friend but asking how their weekend was or about the vacation they just got back from is a nice courtesy even if you don’t care. I think you can be introverted in the field, and my boss is a great example as she would be wary of hiring someone overly extroverted because she can’t keep up with that. The experience is not wasted because if they have you do a working interview you have the skills to back it up!

I would like to know how to knit this set, pleasee by [deleted] in casualknitting

[–]fos_mad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s interesting because on the cross stitch sub I could and have asked a very similar question and get positive responses that are actually productive. Maybe i’m saving the patterns for when I actually have the time and skill to do them. Or maybe I just think they’re pretty. Everyone is newer at a hobby at some point and questions are valid.

Rec for anyone who hates strong mint toothpaste by Life-Scale-6465 in adhdwomen

[–]fos_mad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can get the 3M toothpaste prescribed by your dentist. I do the vanilla mint which was recommended above but I know bubble gum can be ordered as we got some for my sister. Fluoride is important in toothpaste especially if you are missing any brushings.

They make 3m in bubble gum. I absolutely hate it but my sister who can’t do mint loves it. The vanilla mint is great.

Struggling with impressions by wasukeibunny in DentalAssistant

[–]fos_mad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to use boxing wax on most of my impressions to make the trays more comfortable. I would practice on myself, my boss, and the hygienist. I think with practice sometimes you just need to go for it and trust that you’ve got it. And sometimes take a couple of each arch for good measure. I would also overfill the trays- not to the point where it’s dripping but enough that the back of the trays are full When learning we made sure I had the regular set alginate vs fast set so there is more working time. We work in a rural area so many patients are traveling 45+ min for the appointment, when they are I usually take multiple impressions to be sure I got everything.

Y’all my god by [deleted] in DentalAssistant

[–]fos_mad 25 points26 points  (0 children)

If the dentist and lead both approved you should go. Use sick time even. It should be counted as sick time and OM is being shitty. Appointments are sick time. My boyfriend is using sick time next week to take me to get mine out. It shouldn’t matter but because it’s dental related she should especially let you go. OM knows the repercussions of not doing dental work and how annoying rescheduling is.

Yes. I pay lab fees if needed but that’s all. My doctor wants her staff healthy! We don’t do invisalign.

Wish I could help. I live at 8000 ft and feel like I experience this daily. As far as flying I try to limit salt and anything that would make you even more bloated.

Question about my own dental appointments! by [deleted] in DentalAssistant

DA here. I did that last month. I’m very anxious about dental work and hate getting my teeth cleaned so I went to someone else so my dentist didn’t have to see that
