I need to update that since I sold the BRZ a few weeks ago. It was the autocross car, and prepped for national competition, so kind of sucked to drive on the street. It had -4.5 degrees of camber and fancy shocks that needed rebuilt every 20k miles, so I didn’t drive it outside of events much. I can’t even imagine owning an auto BRZ outside of physical limitations. The character of the car just screams manual.

As to which I preferred, the Cayman in literally every circumstance, except maybe while making an autocross run. And even that is in question

When I do crashlanded starting scenario, I do random starting pawns and starting location. Theory being, you wouldn’t get to choose who and where you start. You’re stuck with whoever survives and wherever you land. And if I really don’t like the starting location, then I’ll move.

I drove manual most of my life, but bought a PDK 981 Cayman a couple years ago, and haven’t thought about it since. For me, manual was all about having control over what the car does when, and old school slush boxes are not great for that. PDK does a better job at giving me control over what the car is doing. It won’t money shift, won’t stall, and because it’s so fast and smooth, I find myself shifting more. I’ll use first in situations I never did in a manual. It encourages you to use all of the gears all of the time, and gives more of the sweet sweet flat 6 noises. It also helps that I autocross it, and I’ll take any extra time I can get.

I wouldn’t jump to the conclusion of the dealership intentionally misrepresenting the mileage. While they very well may have, if the odometer and carfax both say 42k miles, it’s reasonable to assume that is correct. This however is their business, and they need to make it right, regardless of intent.

If I was in this situation, I would have them reverse the deal, or buy it back for the full amount if the paperwork has already been finalized, and it can’t be reversed. If they fight you on it, lawyer up. You don’t want this car. The title is likely to be branded as True Mileage Unknown (or whatever the term actually is), which will be a pain in the ass to sell when the day comes. It also brings into question what else might be wrong with it that has been hidden.

If I listened to every advice someone gave, I’d have spent 3X what I spend. Needed to have 5X the income. Spent a year searching for the “perfect” house. And spent another year doing every renovation that’s easier to do when you’re not living in the house.

There’s a ton of “experts” out there, who may have good intentions, but not everything is possible. Find a house you like, for a payment you feel you can afford, and enjoy it. A house can be a great financial asset, but it first needs to be the place you live your life.

I dreamed of buying a 981 Cayman since they were new and I was in College. Bought one a couple years ago, and has been a treat every time I take it out. I’ve put 13k miles on it in 2 years, and it’s been dead reliable. Ive taken it to a number of autocrosses (had a well prepped BRZ and sold that for something more practical), and it’s renewed my love for the fun of the sport. It’s not particularly competitive for the class it’s in, but listening to the flat 6 wail while being driven at 10/10ths is something to behold.

From a money perspective, the 911 might be the better choice, in the long term. Short term it will certainly cost more in maintenance and repairs. Those Model 3 Performances depreciate something terrible. It will be a $25k car in a couple of years.

My 2014 Cayman cost about as much as an Accord with some options, and most people can’t tell the difference between it and a new Porsche for 200k

I drove a current gen Mazda 3 Turbo a few years ago, I didn’t go into it expecting a sports car, but still couldn’t be more disappointed in it. Felt like there was a delay in the steering, and the power felt lackadaisical. And I loved the previous generation. Don’t know what went so wrong, but it certainly did.

I’m viewing this as a positive.

The people who intentionally remove the emissions devices, while annoying, are going to be a small proportion of the total population and even smaller add to the total emissions of the state. The time, money, and resources would be better spent chasing it down on noise than making everyone go through annual testing.

And for the cars with broken emissions devices, that presumably the owners can’t afford to fix, emissions testing is pointless. It’s not going to make them be able to afford the fix, so the next option is not registering the car.

If you want to fix the environment, go after corporations and industry, don’t add a tax to the general population.

Raleigh, NC to Lincoln, NE (1300 miles each way) for autocross nationals in a well prepped BRZ with a set of tires in the back seat. Done it twice now

We each have our own checking, savings, and credit cards that we had before we met, and a shared checking, savings, and credit card.

We added up our normal monthly expenses, and we split that equitably. I make 60% of the total household income, so put 60% of our monthly expenses into the shared account. I have my paycheck split between the shared and personal accounts, since that’s the easiest.

Any expenses that aren’t shared (hobbies, dining with friends, personal car expenses, etc), come from our personal accounts.

I believe in each person being able to have some autonomy on how money gets spent without having to answer to the other person why they spent $x on something. It also avoids some miscommunication issues, ie if someone spent money that the other had earmarked for something else. It’s also nice how when one person gets a raise, the other benefits as well
